  • I started from the Kihei side at the highway, just before sunrise. 1 hr 15 min up to the top. Beautiful views on the way. 1 hr 19 down to the park lot on the Lahaina side. Bring water. I went through ...  more »
  • Not in the top 5 hikes on Maui, but not bad either. The hike is very easy, I don't know why someone would say moderate for experienced hikers. Where a hat, sunscreen, and bring water, the dry heat is ...  more »

  • This is not a easy hike, but worth it. We went to the "wind farm" and came back. Six miles round trip all uneven/rocky trails. bouldering. Great opportunities for whale watching as well. I think the trail gets lots of use, but it's respected by the people using it (clean). The views are amazing. Be prepared, bring water and trekking poles (if you aren't comfortable climbing rocks, or don't have the best knees). With the elevation change, you will get a workout. Leave the cooler in the car for when you get back, a cold drink and food were really good.
  • Definitely a more advanced, strenuous trail. Be aware of extreme wind at the top, and lots of rocks and boulders make up the trail on the Lahaina side. Sturdy shoes, wind breaker and water, as well as Kleenex are must haves! Well worth the effort to take this hike!
  • Hiking straight up a mountain around some ridges. We experienced very high winds in our face for most of the hike. When you finish the trail there is nothing interesting to see. The best views of the ocean are about half a mile up the trail.
  • This is a great mid-level hike. Loose rocks and a moderate incline make it a fun climb up the mountain side. The best part of this hike is the sweeping views of the ocean from the south side including Molokini and Kahoolawe. I wouldn't recommend this hike if you have knee or ankle issues.
  • This is a nice trail for a quick hike. We start on the Ma'alea side, you'll need to park closer to the highway (which we always did anyways) as the last time we did this hike you were unable to get to the trail head parking lot. The trail seems to be recovering from the fires last summer, you can see green all the way up. It can be pretty steep, so make sure you wear proper footwear (no slippahs!) - it's almost more challenging on the way down than up. There also isn't a whole lot of shade on the trail, so get out early, wear sunblock, and bring water. Also, it gets super windy at the top, so make sure any hats, shirts, etc.. are secured.
