Where to stay in Lahaina

Despite its popularity with tourists, Lahaina offers relatively few accommodations, which boil down to rental properties and several hostel-like establishments with rooms available on a nightly, weekly, or monthly basis. If you don't have to stay in Lahaina itself, consider lodgings in Kaanapali, less than 15 minutes away by car. Other good options are the resort hotels just to the north of Lahaina, and oceanside campgrounds to the south.

  • *Tip: bring 2-3 times more water than you would expect on a trail hike - this felt more like a Sedona Dessert trail than a traditional rainforest/Hawaii trail We had read about this trail a few days b...  more »
  • Great views on this hiking trail even if you don't make it all the way to the top. Plenty of places to stop and catch your breath  more »
  • My rating represents the degree of difficulty of this trail. Up up up over boulders with very few breaks. The wind is fierce. Attempt only if you are very fit and an experienced hiker.  more »

  • Go early to avoid being in the sun the whole time. Don't forget water and wear sturdy shoes. Great coastal views.
  • This is not a easy hike, but worth it. We went to the "wind farm" and came back. Six miles round trip all uneven/rocky trails. bouldering. Great opportunities for whale watching as well. I think the trail gets lots of use, but it's respected by the people using it (clean). The views are amazing. Be prepared, bring water and trekking poles (if you aren't comfortable climbing rocks, or don't have the best knees). With the elevation change, you will get a workout. Leave the cooler in the car for when you get back, a cold drink and food were really good.
  • Awesome view up there!!! It was a good hiked😀
  • Definitely a more advanced, strenuous trail. Be aware of extreme wind at the top, and lots of rocks and boulders make up the trail on the Lahaina side. Sturdy shoes, wind breaker and water, as well as Kleenex are must haves! Well worth the effort to take this hike!
  • Hiking straight up a mountain around some ridges. We experienced very high winds in our face for most of the hike. When you finish the trail there is nothing interesting to see. The best views of the ocean are about half a mile up the trail.
