Crystal Cove, Laguna Beach

(900+ reviews on the web)
State Park Beach
Take in the unspoiled natural beauty of southern California's coastline at Crystal Cove. The 1,592 ha (3,936 ac) park offers 5.1 km (3.2 mi) of clean beaches and tide pools, as well as a 566 ha (1,400 ac) marine conservation area and bluffs and canyons throughout. Take a shuttle from the parking lot along the highway to avoid the strenuous walk down to the shore. The surf is gentle and ideal for swimming, boogey boarding, and searching for shells and sea creatures. Visit the restored cottages in the Crystal Cove Historic District to see where people first settled before southern California had its population boom. If you plan in advance, these quaint cottages can be rented out quite affordably. • Crystal Cove park includes beach part, about 6 miles of pristine coastal wilderness, and dozens of miles of in-land hiking trails. Local animal life includes coyotes, bob cats, rattlesnakes, quails, hawks. There are two campgrounds in-land, and one next to the ocean. It is quite steep to hike to the up-land. If you take the most popular 11 mile loop, you will see it all. Visitor center has a few original bungalows preserved as a part of museum.
  • Crystal Cove is Beautiful State Beach and Park "worth paying the $15 parking fee". Lots of fun things to do and see. Definitely love the Moro Creek/Canyon difficult Trail hike that starts from the day use parking lot by the campground. A few hours before sunset is a pretty good workout. The view of the Pacific Ocean on one side of the mountain top is stunning. There are also trails along the beach for a nice easy stroll.
  • The rangers were so kind. They were nice enough to give me directions, pointers on the maps, and the park was extraordinarily clean. I watched as they gave every guest special attention. For my first time at Crystal Cove, it was a good memory to recall that the rangers in California do such a great job with us travelers.
  • The most beautiful beach I've ever seen, but Google Maps took me through a toll road to get there and it was $15 for the day even when we got there at 3:00 pm. Beach closes at sunset and we were told they start ticketing 40 min after sunset. To me, watching the sun melt into the water is my favorite part. It was quite a hike down to the water and we didn't want a ticket so we left before the sun set. :(
  • Awesome place. Go there all the time for running, hiking, and the beach. This place is always great.
