Crystal Cove, Laguna Beach

#1 of 18 in Outdoors in Laguna Beach
Take in the unspoiled natural beauty of southern California's coastline at Crystal Cove. The 1,592 ha (3,936 ac) park offers 5.1 km (3.2 mi) of clean beaches and tide pools, as well as a 566 ha (1,400 ac) marine conservation area and bluffs and canyons throughout. Take a shuttle from the parking lot along the highway to avoid the strenuous walk down to the shore. The surf is gentle and ideal for swimming, boogey boarding, and searching for shells and sea creatures. Visit the restored cottages in the Crystal Cove Historic District to see where people first settled before southern California had its population boom. If you plan in advance, these quaint cottages can be rented out quite affordably. To find out how to plan a trip to Laguna Beach, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • Love the history here and enjoyed walking through nature. Saw some whales from the shore. Great place for photographers.  more »
  • My favorite beach in So Cal! $15 to pay for parking at the entrance gate. Great beach to take a long walk! Peaceful, no dogs allowed. Plan on spending the entire day, it is heaven.  more »
  • Thousands of people drive by here daily and have never taken the time to stop by! It takes a bit of work, but well worth figuring out the parking and paths. But please don’t share with too many people...  more »

  • Absolutely gorgeous beach. Probably one of the nicest around. It's a little rocky but abosultly gorgeous. There's a ton of sea shell's everywhere which is fun for kids. I've taken my nieces and nephews here and they love looking for them. We've found some pretty cool ones. Parking is expensive though and it is a little bit of a walk, but worth it.
  • We've been coming here since we were kids. This time we visited from out of state. Now a new generation is learning to live the tide pools. Our kids won't stop talking about going back. It is still reasonably priced to park and we had very friendly Rangers attend to us. If you are in the area it's worth your time.
  • Avoid at all cost if you know what’s good for you! We drove up from San Diego with family from out of the country for sightseeing. While my husband was standing in line at the machine paying for parking (it was nice day so there was a bit of a line) the parking attendant gave us a ticket. It happen to several other people around the same time, and several of us complained. A ranger yelled at the attendant for doing this, but refused to make the person void it. We tried to contest via mail but we’re denied. The kicker is the parking attendant fradualant wrote an earlier time on the ticket even though we have proof we were hours away still in SD. So after paying to park... we were slapped with a $71.50 ticket.... of course we could waste more of our time arguing it at a hearing. Complete BS! Shady business from public workers! Absolutely ruined the trip and will never go back again.
  • Go to inspiration point instead to avoid the overpriced parking. If you feel like paying then just go here. The thing is crystal cove like any beach area has multiple entry points. This isn’t the best one.
  • Home away from home. My mom began taking me here before i could walk. My grandmother used to submit her paintings of this place to the belmont shore art festivals. I live in Ohio now, but while visiting for my mother's memorial service i took my girlfriend here and we tossed some flowers from the tide pools into the water. One day I will bring my children to this beach and they can look into the tide pools and play with the sand crabs like I did.
