Windansea Beach is a stretch of coastline located in La Jolla, a community of San Diego, California. The neighborhood adjacent to the beach is named Windansea after the beach. It is named after the 1909 oceanfront Strand Hotel that was renamed "Windansea" Hotel in 1919 after the owner Arthur Snell ran a "naming contest". The Windansea Hotel which was located on Neptune Avenue between Playa del Sur and Playa del Norte burned down in 1943. Geographically, it is defined by the beachfront extending north of Palomar Avenue and south of Westbourne Street.

  • One of the few places that mesmerized me from the get-go. Beautiful rock formations, crazy strong waves, surfers, and stunning sunsets. I'm in love with this place!

  • This beach is amazing you can stay on the sand or on the rocks . Is not super busy and is wild . The view is fantastic is not the typical California beach is much more better . This place is awesome. You can not miss it !!
  • Truly a slice of heaven. Peaceful, tranquil, never overly packed. Watch the surfers as the sun sets. A classic tourist mistake is to leave too early after sunset. Wait at least 20 minutes to let the clouds burst into color! Don’t pass up Windansea if you’re stopping by San Diego.
  • Always a beautiful location to photograph. Gladly saw other people cleaning up trash that wasn't even theirs! Maternity, family, couples photography sessions are perfect here or just regular portraits. Photographers can take over though... sorry ahead of time!
  • Lots of rocks and cold water good for a picnic bad for a swim
  • My favorite place to visit when in La Jolla. Just love the sunsets, seeing the surfers and the amazing homes near by.
