Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church, La Jolla

(4.7/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
Bike, admire views, or delve into history at Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church. The most famous of hill's residents was Dr. Seuss (aka children's book author Theodor Seuss Geisel), whose house is at the top. Switch gears, and pay your respects to war veterans at a Korean War memorial that resides nearby. Erected in 1913, the 8.8 m (29 ft) tall concrete cross has a controversial past and faces an uncertain future. However, the 251 m (822 ft) tall hill's many roads and light traffic primarily make it a popular cycling spot. You can opt for long and gradual climb or go for a short, steep uphill sprint. Note that cycling up the hill may be tricky on a windy day, and murky weather may obstruct the views. • This spectacular sight sits high above LaJolla and is is on the 59 mile Scenic Drive. You can see for miles to the ocean and beaches on the west and much of San Diego county to the east. No admission ...  more »
  • Mt. Soledad is an amazing tribute to all heroes! The panoramic view is spectacular and the history you learn reading the plaques is inspiring.
  • This is a must for locals and tourists. A 360 view of San Diego and our beautiful coast. Take time to look at the Veteran's Memorial plaques, very moving. Bring a jacket - it's breezy up there!

  • Good scenic location for events with lots of space, and a view of the Mt Soledad cross. If you're looking for a church service to attend, the pastor is nice and people are welcoming.
