Create an itinerary including Children's Pool
Children's Pool was intended to attract divers and families with children, but the beach is most popular with sea lions. Stroll the paved walkway atop the coastal rocks and watch the waves blocked by a wall. After a swim, relax and observe the sea lions. If you're lucky, you might see a mother caring for her cubs. The area is free to enter, but check with local lifeguards and authorities about the water conditions before diving in. Put Children's Pool on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our San Diego day trip planning site.

  • Since we were here during the calving season, no one was permitted on the beach. Instead, it was covered with sea lions and harbor seals. Wonderful. What else could I say?

  • Too many people allowed in water for sea lions and seals.
  • Don’t even think about it - visit here!! The seals and those adorable, curious pups!! This place made my day! 😊 Be prepared to spend a long time looking for parking or to pay flat fees at public parking buildings. 😅 But honestly, I think it is worth it and you can easily spend hours watching the seals from here!
  • Cutest thing I've ever seen We went to La Jolla because of seals being my favorite animals ever. They truly made my day and made me forgot to put on sunscreen 😆. We visited in late pupping season so we actually got to see some older seal pups. They're absolutely amazing animals and will visit again if I have the chance.
  • If you have kids and are visiting San Diego this is a must stop. It can be quick or you can have fun exploring. There were seals so close we could have touched them (don’t though!) and the kids loved chasing the waves right there as well.
  • Spectacular place to be. Good for enjoying the ocean, animals (seagulls, seals, squirrels), people watching and everything in between. Only down side is that unless you can snag the rare free parking spot parking can be pricey
