Landmark Tourist Spot
Located in the center of downtown, Market Square is the bull’s-eye of the city in every sense. Founded as the regional farmers' market in the 19th century, the square was a common ground where locals and visitors from all walks of life congregated. After a period of decline, the area was revitalized, and today it’s a bustling pedestrian mall, dotted with restaurants, bars, and shops. Try some of the local or international cuisine, see a concert or street performance, and admire the works of resident artists and craftspeople. The historic square is also the perfect place to stroll with your pet or sit and people-watch. Using our custom trip planner, Knoxville attractions like Market Square can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Fantastic variety of restaurants and fun shops. Easy in street parking. A great experience. We will surely come back again.
  • This is one of my favorite places in Knoxville. There is always something to see and do. I love the shops and restaurants, and the farmer's market is a great place to get fresh local produce.
  • The place to be if you're visiting. Eats and shopping of all kinds ranging from cafes to Subway to high-end casual dining to 3 level bars with rooftop patios. Great place to start and/or end your day any time of the week.
  • Several of my favorite restaurants in Knoxville are on the Square including Stock and Barrel. Shopping options are varied and interesting. I love to visit, and near-by parking is free on nights and weekends.
  • Always a good time and there is usually something (or someone) interesting to see! Perfect place for great food, entertainment, shopping and drinks all within walking radius. Bring the kids, the dog, grandma, your date...there is something for everyone. Parking can be a pain in the butt so I recommend looking on the outer blocks for parking garages. They are usually free in the evenings and weekends!
