Kirkwood Mountain Resort

About 35 miles from South Lake Tahoe lies Kirkwood Mountain Resort. It may be remote, but in this solitary horseshoe canyon, climate and geography conspire to create one of the purest, most authentic, big-mountain ski experiences in North America. Kirkwood is the siren call for those adventure seekers who prefer their snow deep and their terrain steep. Home to the Freeride World Tour, the resort features some of the country’s most diverse and challenging inbounds terrain. From cornices to couloirs…from wide-open bowls to chutes too tight to turn a ski in…Kirkwood offers 2300 acres of mountain that will challenge skiers and riders from first chair to last. And if you’re craving prolific, majestic, magical snow, this is where you’ll find that rare blend of quantity and quality. Averaging more than 600 inches per year, it comes down lighter and drier and piles up much deeper at Kirkwood than anywhere else in the region.

  • Mountain too big, huge variety of clues, but the lifts are not modern and the station is not condominium would be hosted it, but worth a visit.

  • We loved our day skiing at Kirkwood. But watch out for the old Iron Horse ski lift. It will kick you in the calves and dump you out on top.  more »
  • Great slopes, not a lot of frills or luxury. Somewhat less expensive than major Tahoe hills with equal or better skiing. Range of terrain from beginning to expert so something for everyone. Nice layou...  more »

  • Awesome resort..far enough away where you don't get long lines for lifts like heavenly...parking was easy to find..the runs can't be beat. Solitude and the wall were awesome. Great staff kept lift seats dry and moving quickly. food a little pricey but you can bring your own lunch. Lodge is a bit packed during lunch but same goes for all the resorts.
  • Love this ski resort. Lots of options for difficulty level, high elevation means good snow even if its a bad year. Well taken care of, plenty of parking, has some pretty good runs.
  • Without a doubt- best snow and resort in the Sierra! Highest base altitude, most accumulation of all the resorts and if you are a snowboarder- best natural terrain. Don't tell anyone though.
  • It was good! There was plenty to ski and the weather was a ton of fun. The food was good but a little on the slow end. Overall the food was worth the wait. The staff were friendly.
  • Great mountain with lots of different and dynamic slopes. The base mountain is great with lots of meal choices and drinks. My favorite ski resort around Lake Tahoe
