Farm
Exchange Place, - a living history farm, is Kingsport's tonic for today's fast paced life.

The site was once a community that served as a self-supporting plantation, a relay station along the Old Stage Road and the Post Office for Eden's Ridge, TE.

Exchange Place -- the Gaines-Preston Farm recaptures life in the early 1800s.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, nine of the ten buildings built between 1816 and 1851 are restored on their original foundations.

As part of Exchange Place's commitment to preserve 19th century agricultural life, period livestock now reside on the farm. Domestic skills, including washing, spinning, weaving, ironing, quilting, candle dipping and basketry, are frequently demonstrated during festivals and by special arrangements.
Our Kingsport family vacation planner makes visiting Exchange Place and other Kingsport attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Fun place for local events, garden festival turned out great. Parking is a bit of an issue though.
  • Take your family and have fun. Open throughout the year, but they have seasonal festivals. Buildings from the 1800's as it would have been when settlers stopped to exchange horses and currency as well as buy goods on their journey west. Recreations of activities and games, etc. that would have been done/played at that time. Usually have live music and craft/food vendors during festival weekends. Livestock and vegetable garden. Blacksmith and General store. Run by volunteers who are very knowledgable and dedicated. Kids adore going here. Small entrance fee for adults (kids free). Funfest summer festival is free to all.
  • Great historical site!
  • Lovely place to see!
  • Nice historical tour to go on.
