Hackberry General Store, Kingman

(4.6/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Take a step back in time at Hackberry General Store, a former gas station that represents one of the most iconic stops along the famous highway Route 66. Stop by the store on your drive and admire its extensive collection of nostalgia, ranging from old billboards and advertisements to gas pumps and storefront items. Wander the grounds to see a quintessential slice of the famous highway, keeping an eye open for rusting hulks of classic muscle cars and other equipment. Grab a deliberately kitschy souvenir from the store's offerings, many of which feature replicas of its displays outside. Use our Kingman itinerary builder to add Hackberry General Store and other attractions to your Kingman vacation plans.

  • Good place to buy souvenirs if you wanted some. Cheaper than other tourist areas. Great to drive down Route 66. Be sure to get your Route 66 passport before your head out to get a stamp at all the sto...  more »
  • What a fun and quirky shop to visit! My husband was a bit freaked out as we approached the wind was blowing the chimes and the sign was creaking, he said it was like a scene from a horror movie! LOL W...  more »
  • First we meet in the middle of the postcard, or the calendar hanging on the wall! Outside the old cars side by side htroclytes stuff. It is full of humor. Inside prices are already with the tax. There are plenty of things of the shirt to the trinket... At the General Store, the real Ali Baba Cave, of Hackberry. Recognized as key of the Route 66 location, it is a place that I loved. And yet somewhere in the middle of nowhere Hackberry has the distinction of having been several times in a ghost-town. First mining town, abandoned in the 1920s, she experienced a renaissance with the Route 66 in 1926, with several gas stations, before falling into oblivion in 1978, with the closure of the last store, after the opening of the I40. Until an iconic owner opens this general store.

  • The best about this shop is not the sold (tourist) stuff but the amazing decoration outside. Be sure to make a stop on your way down Route 66.
  • Unfortunately, one of the few things worth visiting on this part of route 66. Lots of the stuff on sale here you can buy in many of the other shops along the way but it's done in a really nice way
  • Great Route 66 stop. Nice people, lots of fun things to look at, and they had original recipe Dr. Pepper last time I stopped in.
  • My pupper, Wilhelm, had a great time playing with the owners dog. Poor thing looked pretty frail, not much to fend on out here in the middle of the desert.
  • They were closed by the time we rolled through there but with the sun going down it made for some beautiful dramatic photos. I saw the gentleman outside doing chores so I complimented him on his store and how great it was. I then thanked him for allowing me to walk around and take pictures. Friendly people. What a great piece of iconic American history.
