  • Beautiful views and lots of birds here. Make sure you check the calendar though because the site was closed during the entire weekend before the federal holiday so we couldn’t walk to the lighthouse.

  • This is definitely worth a quick side trip. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes and didn't do a lot of hiking, but just enough to enjoy the views.

  • The views are really fantastic here. If you are a bird lover, then this is the place for you. If not though, there are just as beautiful views elsewhere on the island that are free. I was a little disappointed at how small the wildlife refuge was. I don’t necessarily regret going but also would not do it again because views like this can be seen all over the island.
  • If you love birds, it is a must. There are seabirds that are rare to see this close. The Lighthouse is here also, at the moment not open for tours inside. It is a small area, however the reason for a wildlife refuge is to preserve the land for the wildlife, also means to give them their space. I appreciate the small look into their habitat. Hawaii is more than a tourist destination it has heart, soul, and historical/cultural aspects we must respect and preserve. This location is offering protection for ground nesting birds from the predators humans brought to the islands. I personally think helping any living being from going extinct is our duty while we borrow the earth in our lifetime.
  • One could easily spend more than half a day enjoying here. A great spot for a relaxed family bonding time or solitude time for rejuvenating yourself. The rules have changed and you'll need reservation to actually visit the lighthouse. Reserve in advance for your visit and reach on time for a stress-free experience.
  • This is the farthest point i can go to see a lighthouse right now. The gate to enter Kilauea Lighthouse is closed. The main gate is the same to enter a National Wildlife Refuge and a Kilauea Lighthouse. However, i can see lighthouse from here, and i feel i have already received 75 percent of satisfaction. Not sure, if i need to come back again when the gate is opened to see a lighthouse up close. It is nice to have a small binoculars with you right now or on any trip. This area is small, parking is limited. Early morning is the best time to be here.
  • Came on a bad day. Major storm which didn’t allow us to go visit the lighthouse but still got some amazing pics from the overlook. Will have to come back on better weather
