Presidential Trail, Keystone

(4.8/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
For an expansive view of the faces on Mt. Rushmore, set out on Presidential Trail, a short walk that will take you to the base of the mountain. The trail is an easy-to-moderate, 800 m (0.5 mi) boardwalk track with signs along the way that offer information about presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. An information hut features material about Danish-American sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son, who sculpted the 18 m (60 ft) heads of the presidents between 1927 and 1941. As you stroll along the boardwalk, you will get views of presidents from a number of angles. In addition to looking up, be sure to take some time to look all around for a glimpse of some local wildlife. Put Presidential Trail and other Keystone attractions into our Keystone trip builder, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • This trail ran near to MR. It was a well designed feature showing all the state flags flying at full mast. The trail ran to the forefront of the MR mountain. The weather that day was sublime.  more »

  • If you "Mount Rushmore" is already the way, you should necessarily walk this trail. He is very nice, for the one or the other something difficult (stairs, uphill run...), but quite doable with breaks for the elderly. One we compensated for this, that you very close to the Presidentenköpfe can run, sees these directly from the bottom and it is a very impressive sight! We had to be able to run the trail the luck with bright blue weather and pleasant warm temperatures. An unforgettable experience!
