4.5/5 based on 4,000+ reviews on the web
A taste of presidential history, Truman Little White House offers guided tours of rooms filled with original furnishings and memorabilia. This house, originally built in 1890 for officers of the local naval base, served as Truman's winter residence for a total of 175 days during about a dozen vacations. Though many of Truman's private possessions still lie scattered about the rooms, he was not the only notable figure to spend time in the house. Thomas Edison lived here during World War I, and presidents John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton used the house for government functions. The interior is open for guided tours only, but you can walk around the surrounding botanical gardens on your own. • This was a fantastic stop during our sightseeing in Key West. Our tour guide George was knowledgeable, and provided nice commentary along the way. It's amazing the history of this place, yet we've never heard of it until we were there.
  • The best $15 you will ever spend!!! Make sure you go on the tour with Chris. She's spectacular. Soooo knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic. The house is very down to earth in every way, just like Truman was himself. You will feel at home (a vacation home that is) right away.
  • Our tour guide, Rebecca, was very knowledgeable and impressed me with her personal touch to the tour. Highly recommended!
  • Very cool to see a second white House for winter use during Truman. We did the free tour but the guided tour is available and more extensive for $15 and 45 minutes. The free tour is basically two rooms of artifacts and facts.
  • If you're into 20th century American history, this is a really interesting stop. I learned a lot about Truman and about this particularly quirky footnote in U.S. history. The house is pretty ugly though-- aside from the custom woodwork, the decor has not held up at all--but in a way that's fun to see!
