Step back in time at Audubon House & Tropical Gardens, the former home of maritime pilot and master wrecker Capt. John H. Geiger. The grand property, built by the captain in the 1840s, has been restored to its former glory. A guided tour of the house, which is filled with antiques, provides a glimpse into the comfortable lives that wealthy Key West families enjoyed during the mid 19th century. Once the tour is over, you are free to explore the house and 0.4 hectare (1 acre) tropical gardens independently. The gardens are said to have been visited by the naturalist J.J. Audubon in 1832, who then used images from the gardens in his drawings. Be sure to read the information panels throughout the property to discover more about the Geiger family and Key West society in the 1800s. • A truly inspiring experience. The tour guide was exceptional and very articulate, knowledgable, and passionate about telling the story of Audubon's experience in Key West. The gallery and gift shop had many tasteful and high quality art items.
  • As a wedding photographer - Senses at Play - and Family Affair Key West all inclusive wedding services - we find the Audubon House is stunning and perfect for intimate and unique celebrations, perfectly located on the island - steps away from sunset - and the gardens are perfect in every way. I usually work with Amy from Catered Affairs who does an absolutely fabulous cocktail/stations events that make for a party all night long. The photography opportunities are unique and intimate and the house it self is a perfect backdrop for an wedding celebration.
  • The Audubon House was a wedding venue more beautiful than my wildest dreams! When my fiance and I moved to Key West, we decided to get married there but weren't into the beach wedding thing. The lush, tropical setting at the Audubon house was perfect. Laura was incredibly helpful every step of the way. On the day of our wedding, our 70 guests were blown away by how gorgeous the whole setting was. It was pretty hot even for October 10th, so everyone loved cooling off inside the house and greatly enjoyed the provided tour, which I highly recommend whether or not you're getting hitched! We're so happy we chose the Audubon House and so grateful to Laura, Joanna and everyone for their part in our perfect wedding!!!
  • Well worth the price. Beautiful gardens and original artwork
  • We got lucky and visited on a breezy cool day. I could have sat in the rocking chair on the back porch for hours. The house has an interesting history and the guides are very knowledgeable.
