  • This is not an interesting wreck, it's more just a pile of rubble lying on the ocean floor. Daytime animal life wasn't very exciting, but night dive was great!  more »
  • We dove this site after the Speigel Grove and it was nice because it was shallow and the visibility was great. There are a lot fish at this site and we happened to see a nice size nurse shark. Most of...  more »
  • The Benwood wreck is cool even on a low vis day, though not as great as the nearby Spiegel Grove. Still worth a dive if you have the time/$ for an extra trip, and you'll be surprised by how vast the w...  more »

  • This cargo ship sunk after a collision with another ship (both running without lights to avoid German subs) during World War II. It was raked and flattened to avoid clogging shipping lanes, so it lies flat and opened up on the bottom about 30'-40' down, easy access for recreational diving and a nice wreck dive for those who aren't up to diving through dark, enclosed spaces. The wreck functions as an artificial reef so a lot of marine life has set up shop here. This probably isn't going to excite advanced divers but is a great way to break up a set of coral reef dives with something a little different.
  • Rainbow reef diving are the best outfit to see it with.
  • Beautiful dive site so many fish and great visibility
  • I dove The Benwood with my parents at the age of 12.. What an experience it was for me!! Very safe dive if you are looking to take your children on a dive like this, you will have nothing but confidence in their safety at this wreck! I was amazed at the sight of her and I know you will be as well.. Do be aware though of "Fire Coral", of course, it is found everywhere on all types of reefs!! So ,being that we would come back here year after year, my confidence grew as I did, I got a little careless while trying to make myself buoyant under water! I was on top of the SS, sank a little farther than expected, knee touched the top of The Benwood and BAM, I felt the small wrath of Fire Coral! Not fun Be Safe! On of my Favorite Dives! Lots of beautiful marine life to see! Can't wait to take my son when he is old enough! Oh yeah and never touch the reef!! Not because of the stupid Fire coral, because divers fins and hands touching the reef actually really hurts and destroys the reef from growing.. Keep these majestic scenes for our future generations! I will never forget these times, especially the experience with my parents and brothers! It was one of best times of my life!!
