Misty Fjords National Monument, Ketchikan
(4.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Visit Misty Fjords National Monument to see snow-capped mountains behind jagged granite cliff walls that were carved by ancient glaciers. The fjords are part of a coastal rainforest area that is often shrouded in clouds and mist, giving the area its name. In the water, watch for orcas, porpoises, sea lions, seals, and salmon. On land, you might see bears, deer, wolves, wolverines, moose, and mountain goats as well as hummingbirds and migratory sea birds. You can only access the remote fjords by floatplane or cruise ship. For the more adventurous, boat drops for kayaking can be arranged. • One of the top 5 most spectacular things I've done in my life! A must do for anyone who is able to. I am no stranger to mountains, but these are truly the master pieces of Mother Nature. If you've nev...  more »
  • The fjords of Ketchikan are impressive, a natural wonder that you'll go on a small boat about 30 people or so. Tea care to offer these excursions in the port, since they tend to sell more tickets than seats and can touch you go on foot. Is true that dan hot chocolate and coffee and a snack at the turn, but takes place in just in case. When you get to the fjords get out and enjoy the scenery by pulling photos. With luck, the journey from roundtrip - in total 5 hours - maybe you see a whale, so stay tuned. Also you will pass an island with seals resting. Cost US $200 but we bought it on the cruise Alaska from 8 days in which we were going. I recommend that you take the excursion walk from port, it will be cheaper insurance.

  • What a beautiful wilderness area. Something like 2.2 million acres set aside by the US government to remain natural and with no roads. Only way to see is by foot, by boat or by air. This is an amazing place to visit. The mountains are incredible!
  • Wonderful views by float plane. So serene.
  • Breathtaking. One of the most beautiful places in North America.
  • Fantastic experience seeing the Fjord by boat. What a beautiful place!! So happy we took this excursion.
  • Astoundingly beautiful. The park is similar to Yosemite, expect that it is bigger, wetter, greener and even more awe inspiring.
