Fossil Safari at Warfield Fossil Quarries Reviews
We drove out from NJ to do a week of digging in the famous Green River Formation and after knowing of Warfields since I was a kid, it was simply a must to visit and I am sure glad we did! We met up wi... more »
We took our grandkids to dig fossils.. they were thrilled to find whole fish fossils. The splitting of shale was easy enough for the youngest to do. We went home with a box full of treasures. The care... more »
We took our six year old with another family. It was manual labor but the fossils were much easier to find than I expected. The owner was extremely helpful in showing technique and checking up on us. ... more »
I contacted this place over email while planning a vacation. I had some wierd questions and needed particular help. Rick responded promptly. He was polite, accommodating, and went out of his way to help make my vacation a success. Thanks Rick! I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
No need to worry about anything except bringing gloves and a hat. Absolutely on of the best times I have ever had and found way more fossils than we dreamed of. I wish we lived closer than Florida but I will make another trip someday. Sent home about 100 pounds of fossils and a little rock to split with the kids.
(10) of us dug and had so much fun. Young and old were so into finding the fossils. We found lots of fish within the few hours we were there. If we had more time we would have stayed longer to try and find more. Worth every penny, can't wait to go back.
This was one of my dreams to visit this location in Wyoming. George who runs the place did not disappoint. If you're having trouble finding fossils, he'll get next to you and dig until you find some. George is very knowledgeable to the fish fossils at this location. You will not be disappointed and you will leave with fossils. We came from Texas in May 2017 and we're already planning another trip to Fossil Safari before the end of the summer. 5 stars for sure !
Amazing place! But... I had a bit of a different experience there. First off, I didn't have that great of luck in finding any fossils. I ended up with two fish fossils which were missing the head. It honestly just comes down to the amount of luck you have combined with the amount of skill you posses, and I apparently didn't have tons of either; while many people in my group were finding dozens of complete fish and some other cool little fossils. In addition to that, I was really picky about the fossils I did find; I only settled for the best fish because there were tons and tons of fossils. The place was overflowing with them. Despite my low haul, though, I had a AWESOME time! The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful and I learned so much about the geology and practices of fossil hunting. I never got bored, having the motivation to keep going in hopes of finding more fossils. Shortly after I found my first and only fossils, I dropped a huge rock on my finger and cut it open. I went to the owner with a very bloody gash. He got my finger cleaned up and wrapped up good, and helped to stop me from passing out due to shock (I can't stand the sight of blood). Needless to say, I was very impressed by the service we got, the water and sodas, and great first aid. I, of course, was done with digging after that, but I'm sure if I hadn't injured myself I would've gotten some more awesome fossils. Would I go back again? Definitely!
