Monument History Museum
Stretching for more than 91 m (300 ft) across Nebraska's section of Interstate 80, Great Platte River Road Archway uses its position to document the history of the westward expansion of the United States and its people. Designed to recall the external appearance of a classic covered bridge, the museum also comprises two towers that anchor the structure. Wander the complex on a self-guided tour, and you'll be transported back to the Oregon Trail and the pioneers of the Old West, many of whom passed through nearby Kearney. Moving forward, you'll experience the trials, tribulations, and successes of technology, infrastructure, and development during America's move west, including the advent of modern-day transportation. • What a great attraction. Very informative and interesting. Good for all ages. We paid 11 bucks for the audio guided tour and didn't regret it. We were lucky enough to be there for a short musical show...  more »
  • Unbeliveable place. We stopped here and spent a good two hours. As you walk through the archway you see and hear the history of the area.  more »
  • We have found that most audio tours tend to drag on longer than we like and this was no exception there. Numbered reference points are not in numerical order. However they do a very good job of showin...  more »

  • Great place to learn more about Nebraska! Wonderful tour, I enjoy the headsets that let you proceed at your own pace! So big, but with escalators and elevators, everyone gets to enjoy everything be they stroller or wheelchair bound. Great gift shop and beautiful sculptures inside and out! We really loved feeding the fish and seeing the native plants. The Fort maze was fun, I could hear many kids having a blast.
  • Love the whole experience. The building is beautiful. We were greeted by an old prospector type of cowboy (an actor who did a great job) dressed as he would have been in the 1800's. He told us where to buy tickets and how the whole thing worked. After you buy tickets, you get hooked up with a headset and a receiver that hangs around your neck. As you enter each historical section, the receiver picks up a narration discussing what you're seeing. Very authentic experience. If you're going to be near Kearney, this is definitely worth a visit!
  • Beautiful place! The wall thru museum that goes over the interstate was amazing. I was reluctant to pay the $12 admission, but am glad I did. It was definitely worth it and very, very well put together and informative. Highly recommend as a stop along your road trips! The gift shop is full of neat items, too :)
  • We were lucky enough this time to pass the Archway while it's open. We stopped by last time and it was closed so we just took pictures outside. The other times we passed here were always nighttime. We had the chance to go inside and check it ourselves. We were greeted by a man dressed in cowboy costume. He was so nice and friendly so we were convinced to go through it even though the entrance fee is $12 each for adults. You will experience history inside the Archway. For the self-guided audio tour, you will be provided by a headset and a remote control where you can tap on the numbers in each exhibit. My husband didn't want initially to go with me but I am glad he went. From the ground floor, the tour will start at the escalator that will bring you to the first level. I would have not make it alone as I find it creepy inside because of the lightings, sound effects and the figures inside. On the second was the modern time and the atmosphere was bright and better. Another escalator is at the exit that will bring you back to the ground floor where the office, cafe, visitor center and shop are. For maintaining the place and doing a great job, we thank the admin and staff here. We had fund and it was a nice experience. And oh, we played at the Maze area outside the museum too. :)
  • A little cheesy but it was ok. Needs to be updated but the family enjoyed it. I think outside is better than inside. Staff was great though!
