A C-shaped cove makes Kapalua Beach a prime location for snorkeling, swimming, and sunbathing. Also referred to as D.T. Fleming Beach, the white sand shoreline fronts the Ritz-Carlton, with public access available from Honokahua Bay. The waves here are known for good surfing and boogie boarding conditions, while the abundance of coral reefs and sea life make this beach one of the best snorkeling spots in the area. Head to the north end of the beach for clear snorkeling (thanks to the more rocky terrain). Sand tends to sit in the bay's center, making the water more cloudy there. Watch for sea turtles or Hawaiian monk seals along the beach. Use our Kapalua online trip itinerary builder to arrange your visit to Kapalua Beach and other attractions in Kapalua.

  • We like to snorkel in the early morning before the crowds arrive. Best side to snorkel is the left side as you face the ocean. There appears to be more sea life and turtles than on the right side...  more »
  • This was my favorite beach on Maui! It was great for beginner snorkelers (like myself & my husband). The beach sits in a natural cove with a reef running throughout it, so there are a lot of fish...  more »
  • This beach is excellent for families with young children, as well as beginner snorkelers, because the rock outcroppings on either side provide natural protection from wind and high surf. Snorkeling.....  more »

  • As with many beaches there is less beach area than there used to be due to sea level rise. On calm days this is a great spot for snorkeling and safe for kids to play in the water. There is no life guard. There are bathrooms and showers to rinse off saltwater and sand.
  • Hands down my favorite beach! Coral & bottom structure always beautiful. Can't miss on catching a turtle or two swimming. Plenty of room to accommodate many beach goers + showers & restrooms
  • Gorgeous cove. Lots of people but can find quiet times during week at sunset/dusk. If you have your own snorkel gear and a few extra minutes it is worth a quick swim as there are sometimes turtles.
  • Best place for snorekling and hi5 w/ 3 turtles. Do not waste your money with those snorkeling tours which cost big bucks, this place is 100 times better spot. I haven't seen any pretty fishes and turtle with the tour, but I saw really amazing colorful fishes right few steps away from beach and swim with Turtles right here. Facing ocean, left most side has lots of fishes, and cross the beach it's all good spots to find turtles.
  • Pretty quiet when we went in early October. Not that big of a beach but great for snorkeling. Very calm waves and got to see two turtles
