Union Station, Kansas City

(1,700+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Visit a science museum and catch a train, all in one building at the lovingly restored Union Station. The station was heavily used when it was built in 1914, but fell into disrepair after World Word II until it was closed in 1985. After almost 20 years of neglect, the station reopened in 1999, after significant renovation. Now the station is a cultural and transportation hub, featuring museums such as Science City, a 3-D movie theater, and a large planetarium. • Attended a wedding and the servers were very accommodating and the food was excellent. Not sure if it was catered or Union Station employees were involved.  more »
  • Loved walking around. Again inexpensive activity to stop and see inside the 100 year old building. Easy to get to. Kids enjoyed the railroad and going to science museum.  more »
  • The architecture inside is very pretty, and it's neat to think about what Union Station was like during it's heyday, but it's completely underutilized now. It seems like a lot of the attractions insid...  more »

  • This place is so rich in history. I came up for a concert, and ended up having wonderful KC natives as unofficial tour guides in our family. They told us we simply had to see this gem. We learned about Nash, the FBI officer shooting, and the history of the Union Station as an official hub for transportation. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in science (they have an exhibit called Science City), architecture, or history to stop by. If my photos don't say you to visit this gorgeous place I don't know what will.
  • I love the self-guided historical tour. The restoration is breathtaking. The planetarium is huge and the show is beautiful. There is a phone app that enhances the tour so you can see historical events happen. It is a top rate attraction.
  • Beautiful place to visit! Many of the various activity type places were closed but it was a great place to see just the same. The restaurant there looks like it would be a great place to dine! A wedding was being held there at the time of my visit. Nice place for it!
  • A must-see for visitors, this historic and beautiful building houses Science City, Extreme Screen, H&R Block Theatre, the planetarium, dining and shopping. Not just for taking a train. A wonderful place to visit at Christmas time, -it is a tradition. Special exhibits can be entertaining and educational- but some are pricey for a family. I wish they still had the old fashioned diner. Walk around the Link and visit Crown Center. Just north of the WWI Memorial and museum. My family has spent countless hours over the years enjoying activities at this amazing landmark. My father got on a train at Union Station 65 yrs ago to join the Navy. So much history in this special 100+ yr old building.
  • Beautiful historic building with so much history to read about. Go up on the second floor to see artifacts and read the history of this amazing place. Then jump on the FREE street car and go through downtown K.C. to city market. Fun for the whole family.
