(4.2/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Kansas City Zoo is renowned nationwide for its rich collections of African and Australian species. Its penguin and polar bear exhibits are also popular. In the Kid Zone, children can learn about the animals, feed some of them, and enjoy the play area and carousel rides. You can buy food from concession stands or bring your own. Animal habitats are large, and getting around the zoo requires a fair amount of walking. Consider catching a ride on a train or a tram to ease the journey. You also may rent strollers, wheelchairs, and electric scooters. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Kansas City holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Kansas City Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • A good zoo. I visited on a hot day and the walk from exhibit to exhibit was a bit of hot adventure. A good option for a long walk with animals all around.
  • One of our two granddaughters' favorite pastimes has been visiting the zoo in Hanover, Germany, so the KC Zoo was a special treat. Spacious with a perfect choice of walking or taking a ride
  • If you are visiting the zoo, also check out the Lakeside Nature Center, an animal rehabilitation center located in the same Swope Park area on Gregory Blvd across from the zoo's south entrance drive. ...  more »

  • We very much enjoy going to this zoo. It does cover a lot of space, so be sure to allocate a whole day if you only have one day. The new orangutan exhibit is very nice and I'm excited about the new exhibit for the tigers, they need it. Food has improved, but could be better. It can get very hot in the Africa exhibit in summer, be prepared!
  • I just love this zoo!! If I could take my son everyday I would. They keep it so clean and easy to get around. Prices are not bad especially if you live in the county. I love how you guys have themes on certain days. Recently we went and there were people all over dressed as Star Wars people. My son loved it.
  • We are huge fans of the KC zoo! We love it so much that we've purchased the membership with the rides: it is so worth it! Yes, we've been to a large zoo like the Omaha one and we still LOVE this one. We like the size of it, we don't normally get to see everything in 3-4 hours (we have small kids) so there's always something else to look forward to next time. The staff is super friendly. There are plenty of restrooms along the way and the rides make it easier for someone that can't walk much.
  • The KC Zoo is one of the very best things you can do here with a day off. Inexpensive, fun for any age, well-organized and well-maintained. The Sky Safari is beautiful, the train is so much fun, especially if you have kids, you can bring your own cooler and/or buy food there, you can watch feedings, take the boat ride, there's so much going on all the time. Don't forget Boo! At the Zoo, and Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too, for additional activities.
  • Love this zoo! It's really large and takes about 7 hours to spend time seeing everything so get there when it opens. I would definitely pay to ride the tram and the train it makes it easier to get from one place to another. BRING OR RENT A STROLLER! My whole family had a blast here!
