Kansas City Zoo is renowned nationwide for its rich collections of African and Australian species. Its penguin and polar bear exhibits are also popular. In the Kid Zone, children can learn about the animals, feed some of them, and enjoy the play area and carousel rides. You can buy food from concession stands or bring your own. Animal habitats are large, and getting around the zoo requires a fair amount of walking. Consider catching a ride on a train or a tram to ease the journey. You also may rent strollers, wheelchairs, and electric scooters. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Kansas City holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Kansas City Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Great experience for the grandchildren. The attempt to mimic habitat and give room to the animals is well thought out. The pass for train, tram, boat, and sky lift etc. rides was worth the price and p...  read more »
  • We have a family membership and visit twice per month on average. The bird show was a stellar surprise this past Sunday. We've overlooked that presentation countless times; it was amazing: the playful winged fellows, delightful humorous staff, comfy seating and acoustics of the auditorium. One could easily spend a full day or two in the KC zoo. We take full advantage of train and boat rides, the tram, Safari Sky Ride, the carousel, playgrounds and the main cafe. My son can't get enough of the tigers, orangutans, penguins and snakes. I look forward to the red pandas, otters, lemurs and meerkats. On hot days, be on the lookout for the big blue misting fans!
  • All the staff I have encountered are so friendly. The zoo is very well maintained. The bathrooms are so clean. There is such a variety of animals and so much to see that I always split up my visits and just visit one area each time so that the kids don't get too tired from trying to see everything in one day.
  • I'm giving the Zoo 5 Stars because, over the last many decades they have been working towards a better facility for the animals and visitors. I've worked here when it was city-run, and it is a better place now than it was then...that being said, they are still improving exhibits and the facilities as I write this. Good for families or a date or just an outing...bird show is free; 'zoo keeper talks' throughout the day; indoor and outdoor exhibits; you can bring in your own food and beverages; most bathrooms clean; general prices are pretty good; open almost everyday (very few holidays it's closed).
  • We loved this zoo. The sea lion show was great to watch. We also enjoyed the rides around the zoo including the tram, the train, the carousel, and the ski lift. We purchased an unlimited wrist band for $10 each person to save some money knowing we were going to ride all of those things. Highly recommend checking this zoo out!!
  • Best zoo I've been to. Very hands on, lots of space to walk and animals to see. Love how they separate the zoo from Africa and Australia. Camel rides. And yes their kangaroos roam free. My whole family loved it.
