  • One of the coolest places on Earth. Go anytime for great food, great vibes. Go Saturday for an awesome farmers market, Wednesday for a huge party. Breakfast and dinner every day, not sure about lunch. All the locals are so nice helpful and knowledgeable. We changes some of our week's itinerary a few times based on local help here. Walk up the hill roped off to cars and follow the red road out to a beach - scenic but not for swimming. Be respectful to the locals and their pets, and they'll give back to you.
  • Food was good. Not bad prices and smoothie place nearby had good vegan treats and ice cream. Had a "local" vibe. Make sure you are aware and respectful of locals and you will be fine. Don't expect tons of smiling faces when you arrive though. Fine place to eat if you are on the lava tour that departs from the area.
  • I love the Wednesday night markets at Uncle Robert's. It's an amazing space for live music, vendors of all kinds (lots of food), and some good 'awa. I've been going for years as a local. It's getting pretty crowded with tourists these days. If you go know that you must be respectful. There's parking along the road (free) in addition to the paid parking lot, so if you get there late you'll have to walk a few blocks, and there aren't street lights. There is a black sand beach 1/4 mile from the market, with a path (not wheel chair accessible) over lava. It's because, but I would NOT go swimming. There are bathrooms, and a small store with an ATM that is open until about 9:00 pm. BE RESPECTFUL.
  • Definitely not your traditional farmers market. The majority of folks are locals, and it can get a bit crowded, but it was a really cool vibe. There's food vendors, craft vendors, and a music performance all at once. You can park on the street for free or in a lot for $3. The people we were staying with estimated up to 4000 people come to the farmers market every Wednesday, and probably 80% are locals. The food was the highlight for us. Everything we tried was great.
  • Imagine driving on an island to the end of the road, to find a place where people are together. Music, food, booze and all the other human goodies. Something for everyone on Hawaii land Fun Wednesday night out. Go early or miss out on parking. Enjoy. Fun social night on the Big Island. A very well known destination. The crowd is a mixture from all over the world.
