Lanikai Beach, Kailua

4.6
Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the world, Lanikai Beach attracts photographers for the view over two islands called the na mokulua, or mokes. In fact, the coast is often populated with photographers and models working on photo shoots for magazines. The beach is accessible by public paths through a nearby residential neighborhood. Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen; the beach has no facilities. • If you're staying in Waikiki, take the bus or hire a car and come check out Lanikai beach. Totally worth the drive. Unlike Waikiki which is a man made beach, Lanikai is amazing, great for beginner sur...  more »
  • It is truly one of the best beaches in the world! All the beaches of Hawaii are owned by the State, so absolutely all beaches free access, all private premises are located along the sand, but no one has a right to make himself an individual access to water. To reach the beach you can also Lanikai car and public transport. Hawaii is considered State with the best public transport network in America. Sitting on the bus in the city centre in the Ala Moana Shopping Centre you can reach any point on the island of Oahu. All Hawaiian beaches have public toilets and showers there is always parking. This is standard! And it is very good that there is no sun beds no stalls, why do they need? But the umbrella have, because of the proximity to the equator the Sun stands almost vertically and burn you very quickly. Hawaiian white sand will replace any Lounger! It is quite dense, very clean. All beaches are well maintained and they will never find a cigarette butt, primary games arena or something nasty. The bottom is very good. This is a flat plate of lava covered with a layer of sand, but it is not viscous Lanikai, but just such thickness, so it was nice to be on the floor. High waves here. While in the North there are the beaches of Oahu, where in February the highest wave in the world, because it goes from Alaska without any barriers. Actually you have to be very careful in wave even seemingly not high, less than a meter, because the water in the Pacific Ocean are very dense and heavy, can kill and steal so that does not seem little)) at Lanikai water amazing Emerald pink Pearlescent color, because it lives in a special plangton, which gives this unfathomable shade. The same water and on the beaches of Honolulu. If you haven't been to Hawaii, you must! It is a delight!

  • This beach is pretty with lots of palm trees and a nice view of the islands but compared to other beaches on Oahu, I am not sure why it has such a great reputation. The beach is small, with lots of un...  more »

  • Less crowded than other beaches in Oahu, really good to have more space on the beach. Water was warm and calm, and the sand is very fine. Parking is a little tricky, we parked on Mokulua Dr, and keep in mind nearby streets are one-way. Just a short walk to the beach from there. No restrooms.
  • This beach is less crowded than others due to its distance from decent parking. However, once you get there it is a pleasant location with great snorkeling. The water is a bit cloudy, but the quantity and variety of marine life was impressive.
  • Really good place for families as the water is calm and there is plenty of coral to do snorkeling around. Also there is a canoe hire which means you can go over to one of the remote islands across the water. Good romantic activity for couples.
  • Gorgeous place to relax with with friends and talk and have fun! Lots of swimmers sunbathers and kayaking going on. Windsurfing and snorkeling too. And if you're feeling adventurous walk up the mountain and take in that view! Great view!!!! Omg and a good workout. Parking at the beach can be annoying but its rarely impossible to find a spot. I mean... if u can't find parking easily then just don't go cuz its gonna be crowded. But yeah super nice and relatively clean!
  • Lanikai Beach is truly one of the most beautiful beaches I've visited. The coconut palm trees grow close to the surf, providing restful shade if desired. Prevailing winds along with crustal blue and turquoise water offer a completely delightful Hawaiian beach experience.
