Kailua Beach Park, Kailua

Stephen Leatherman, known as America's beach expert, ranked Kailua Beach Park the best beach in America in 1998. The water attracts surfers and bodysurfers to its gentle waves. The beach itself slopes slowly into the water with no coral or rock. The shallow water and slight incline make swimming easy. Take advantage of the regular trade winds and try your hand at wind and kitesurfing here. Use our Kailua holiday planner to arrange your visit to Kailua Beach Park and other attractions in Kailua.

  • Pristine beach...just like years ago when I use to live in Kailua. Most beaches are disappearing.. not so here.  more »
  • Incredible calm blue/green water. Tons of kite surfing. Saw turles and incredible walks on the beach. Calm and pristine for relaxing and snorkeling!  more »
  • GORGEOUS BEACH! This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii! Parking can be a pain, so allow for that or some walking. Well worth it to take the short drive from Waikiki!  more »

  • This beach is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life in the moment. It's a smaller beach and less crowded than the previous beaches I've been to in Oahu. The soft white sand and clear blue water were the best part of the beach. A good size parking lot and public shower made this beach easy to access. Most people here come to relax. You don't see much surfing or paddle boarding but we did attempt at paddle boarding here. The trees in the back provided a good amount of shade. On a winter day in Hawaii, the sun was out and a small breeze came through. I was enjoying my time here after hiking two days in a row. It was definitely a nice break. Kailua is an amazing area to live and vacation in. It's your getaway from the city life where you can enjoy more of the nature side of Hawaii and a breath of fresh air. A perfect spot for a nap on the beach.
  • There's a reason this beach is rated so high! Calm waves and amazing sand, no coral around either! Bathrooms, rinsing showers, and more amenities on site along with plenty of parking. Whenever I want to just chill on the beach during the week, this is where I go! Just beware of it being grossly filled with tourists on the weekends, so much so that you won't want to go.
  • The sand is so fine that it felt so good to walk on it. The shore line has long stretch of level sand that allows kids to play by the beach and not needing to worry about drowning. Long shore line to ensure every visitors would have a spot to enjoy the beach with plenty of social distancing space.
  • We visited on a day that was very windy and overcast. The surf was rougher than normal (according to a local). We didn't stay for that reason but can see how it would be a good one to spend time at. There is ample parking, restroom facilities, and a walking path. However, the restrooms were not clean or kept well and there was a homeless guy on the women's side. For what it's worth...
  • This is one of the best beaches in Hawaii. It’s a great place for kids because the waves break relatively gently. The only downside is it can be really difficult to find parking, so it’s best to get there a little bit early to find easy parking. But the sand is amazing and you’ll really enjoy your time here. It’s also a great place to go paddle boarding. 10/10 would go here.
