Where to stay in Kailua-Kona

If you wish to indulge yourself while on the Kona coastline of the "Big Island," book your stay at one of Kailua-Kona's fully furnished beachside villas, offering spa services, free Wi-Fi, and secure parking. You can also try one of the coastline's luxury resorts, featuring tennis courts, fitness centers, and on-site activities like hula lessons and diving classes. Smaller hotels a short drive from the city may not offer beach access, but they provide plenty of privacy at a fraction of the cost of the area's big resorts.

  • The winding 5 mile road from Highway 11 to Miloli'i is scenic enough to warrant the side trip, but the city park at the ocean's edge is poorly maintained and signage clearly indicates that community re...  more »
  • We found this beach on our first day of exploration. As with many of Hawaii's beaches, it is very out-of-the-way. There was a shelter house with no facilities. A few places to wade. Rocky otherwise.  more »
  • Nice tide pools to check out. Seems like a good place for kids, but watch for glass. Not a large beach until you hike back along the trail. That leads to the nice beach if you want privacy. Pretty spo...  more »

  • Miloli'i is definitely a place for us locals... We love it down there... There are spots that need some TLC... However, being down there brings back many memories of growing up on this island, times when life was so simple... Times when it really took the whole village to raise up a child...
  • Not really ok. Bit of a dump really with the exception of the church and small open pavilion on the other side. You will not feel any welcoming vibe and there appears to be zero in the way of amenities for visitors, eg. cafe, convenience store, local pub. Not worth the effort to get there. Seems like a lot of self-imposed squalor.
  • It has bathrooms so that's good. It's off the beaten path. Not really the type of place looking to be rated. A local hangout.
  • Avoid!!!!! I drove down by myself as the sun was setting, and it was a gorgeous view until I reached the bottom with tsunami strewn garbage and broken down houses. Multiple people were wandering around drugged out of their minds, and one kid stared me directly in the eyes as I drove past giving me a menacing look. Needless to say I made a U-turn ASAP and headed up to a different beach park. Definitely, absolutely, do not camp here.
  • The local folks are friendly and the tourists are afraid to go there. It makes it the perfect spot to be. Plenty of good shell and sea glass hunting.
