Where to stay in Joshua Tree National Park

If you want to spend the night in Joshua Tree National Park, grab a tent and head for one of the numerous campgrounds scattered throughout the park. Some campgrounds feature a reservation system while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis. A couple also provide potable water, but most do not. To sleep on a mattress and pillow with a roof over your head, stay in one of the towns surrounding the park. The towns of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms offer a number of inns and motels in a tranquil desert setting. West of the park, the options expand into the resort area of Palm Springs. Here you'll find everything from high-end spas and resorts to chain hotels, small inns, and bed and breakfasts. The park is situated about two hours from Los Angeles (if there's no traffic), making a day trip from the city another possibility.

  • So you dont see this on the normal map but we saw this on the map given in the junior ranger program. We stopped here and had lunch under a joshua tree..it was nice! We also came here for a ranger led...  more »
  • When we visited there were many people with rock climbing gear enjoying the rocks. There is a lot of paved parking space, picnic tables, and lots of trails for hiking.  more »

  • Wheelchair accessible trail loop, but not my favourite rock in this park. There are other, much bigger and more beautiful rocks nearby. But for a rock at this age, Cap Rock is doing just fine.
  • Love Joshua Tree. Seemed a bit crowded when we went, but that could have been because the weekend was free to get it.
  • Lots of great hiking trails and beautiful scenery for people of all ages. Remember to bring lots of water and food for the long walks! Great scenic spot for pictures.
  • If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle or you've always wanted to come out Joshua Tree. Cap Rock and the surrounding trails are a great place to start
  • Bring the dog and kids and monkey around on the rocks! Bring good shoes and possibly gloves to protect yourself. Excellent area.
