  • We did the .3 mile trail around the rock. There is a parking lot, picnic tables and a bathroom here. The hike was a nice short one. Plenty of signs describing the plants and how they’ve adapted to sur...  more »
  • We only drove into the parking lot for pictures because we were running out of time. This is an interesting rock formation. We were curious if/when the "cap" will fall off. I would've liked to do the ...  more »
  • We didn't get out at Cap Rock, but we pulled into the parking lot. We could easily see it and photograph it from the car. It really does live up to its name of "cap". Take a couple of minutes to view ...  more »

  • Cap rock is unique. There is a giant boulder on top of the other boulders that looks out of place. Easy parking right off the main road, 360 angles for photography, and no shade in sight. Check it out, it'll just take a few minutes.
  • Wheelchair accessible trail loop, but not my favourite rock in this park. There are other, much bigger and more beautiful rocks nearby. But for a rock at this age, Cap Rock is doing just fine.
  • Love Joshua Tree. Seemed a bit crowded when we went, but that could have been because the weekend was free to get it.
  • Lots of great hiking trails and beautiful scenery for people of all ages. Remember to bring lots of water and food for the long walks! Great scenic spot for pictures.
  • Beautiful and great walking trails.

Where to stay in Joshua Tree National Park

If you want to spend the night in Joshua Tree National Park, grab a tent and head for one of the numerous campgrounds scattered throughout the park. Some campgrounds feature a reservation system while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis. A couple also provide potable water, but most do not. To sleep on a mattress and pillow with a roof over your head, stay in one of the towns surrounding the park. The towns of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms offer a number of inns and motels in a tranquil desert setting. West of the park, the options expand into the resort area of Palm Springs. Here you'll find everything from high-end spas and resorts to chain hotels, small inns, and bed and breakfasts. The park is situated about two hours from Los Angeles (if there's no traffic), making a day trip from the city another possibility.
