This is a very interesting and historic site. Tour is two hours, too long. Guide very knowledgeable but toooo wordy, The museum next door is excellent.
Excellent tour of the way things were. A lot of interesting things were told . If you go it does involve a lot of walking I did the 2 hour tour and there's more to see so someday will do the 3 hour on... read more »

One of the Coolest Tours I've been on! ❤ But then again CJ is right up my ally! The History I found to be absolutely fascinating and incredible! Having the previous Warden as your Guide made it so much more "Personal"! Listening to HIS experiences of running, What at One Point the LARGEST Maximum Security Prison in the United States.... I could have Stayed and visited with him for HOURS! AS for the Overnight Ghost/Haunting Tour.... 😓 Our Son is only 14. And minimal age must be 18 and older. We'll be back! ❤
Simply awesome. My wife and I went on the 2 hour tour this past weekend and my only complaint is that I wish I would have signed up for a longer tour. The amount of history in the Penitentiary was tremendous. I could have stayed there for a few more hours and listened to the tour guide if they would have let me. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and really took pride in his work. He was more than willing to answer any and all questions, plus provide numerous stories of various events (good and bad) that occurred at the Penitentiary. I definitely recommend this place. Totally worth every penny.
Me and my Best Friend did the Tour yesterday. Our Tour guide was wonderful. Very knowledgeable . We learned a lot about the History of the Prison. We Loved how you were able to go off on your own in a few of the buildings and look and touch and get pictures of whatever you wanted to. Going into the cells was very cool. being able to sit in the execution chairs was also very cool. Great experience! Highly recommended.
Me and my family took the 3 hr tour yesterday 8/6/16, and was pleasantly surprised with our tour guide Gary. Who was an exguard at the prison when it was open. He was full of storys and knowledge about the prison. The whole 3 hrs went so quick because of him, it was fantastic! We plan on doing the over night ghost tour soon!!!
I really liked it alot. The history of the building and inmates along with the sense awe you get from walking those halls is a bit overwhelming. The ghost hunting part of it was a bit of a waste of time for me, but did add to the experience. The tour guides were great and had a thorough description of the who, what and why. I highly recommend it, especially the night tour where the lights go out, occasionally... P.S. bring a small flashlight.
