Art Museum Museum
Located in the state Capital of Jackson, the Mississippi Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the state and has been a community-supported institution for more than 100 years. The Museum boasts an impressive permanent collection of more than 5,000 works of art, in addition to hosting world-class traveling exhibitions. The Mississippi Story, a free ongoing exhibition comprised of more than 200 objects from the Museum’s permanent collection, offers Mississippians and visitors alike the opportunity to explore the remarkable history of visual arts in the Magnolia State. In addition to fulfilling its mission of “engaging Mississippians in the visual arts,” the Museum also offers unique dining and shopping experiences at The Palette Café by Viking and in The Museum Store.

The Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art, a 1.2 acre public green space, breaks down barriers between the neighboring arts organizations and serves as the nexus of a cultural district that empowers creativity, expression, and synergy in the arts community. The Art Garden features a welcoming lawn, seasonal foliage, native garden beds, permanent art installations, soothing fountains, and outdoor terrace dining. This versatile, open, outdoor space is open to the public from 10AM – 5PM daily. In 2010, the Museum received the National Medal for Museum Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency.

The Palette Café by Viking is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Lunch served 11 am - 2 pm.

Closed Sunday, and Monday.

  • I was invited here by one of my grand babies playmates. This is a wonderful place to attend. I really enjoyed it and look forward to going back. Great staff.  more »

  • This was listed on Tripadvisor and a pretty strong attraction. The good news is that it was free. The bad news is that the art is not very good, focusing mostly on regional artists with an emphasis on...  more »

  • It has a nice interior. It's probably best when you're going for an event because the actual art selection is relatively small. They hold fun events though, and looking into it is a good idea
  • Fun visit to the Museum of Art! It has a couple of floors of art work, paintings, and sculptures to walk through. Interesting works with some very original sculptures. It has a beautiful garden outside coupled with a small fountain garden. Its open to the public located in the heart of Jackson Downtown, its worth a visit
  • Nice to visit when in Jackson. The restaurant is quite good too.
  • Lots of fantastic art and they host really fun events every third Thursday! It has something for everyone
  • This is the premier museum in Mississippi. I'm a regular, but visitors are often amazed at the quality of the exhibits, staff, not to mention the food. Currently there is an exhibit called When Modern Became Contemporary that you should not miss. The facility is great for events such as Company parties, weddings and other special events. It's very cool to hold an event and have the ability walk-through a top-notch museum at your own pace. There are numerous events each week, but my favorite is probably Third Thursday which is held in the adjacent Art Garden and features local bands, special food and drinks, and is a really good time. Don't miss it!
