  • Hubby (67) and myself (62) snorkeled here. We read about this park in a guidebook. A little tricky to find; the drive to the park itself is >2 miles on a one-lane (but asphalted) drive. Parking is at ...  read more »
  • This was our favorite beach and was the only place in Hawaii that we went to twice. It was not crowded and about half the people there seemed to be locals instead of tourists. Our first time there the...  read more »
  • Our favorite beach that we visited during our week on the Big Island. Isolated, rustic grey sand beach teaming with aquatic life. Camping is available and picnic tables are set up in the grassy area a...  read more »
  • I actually loved this beach, but BEWARE: infested wth cockroaches. Warm showers, great clear water with amazing snorkeling, kayaking absolve, camping, and dolphins if you get out far enough. I would recommend this place to anyone who isn't afraid of bugs.
  • Swam with spinner dolphins, sea turtles, spotted moray eels, blue box puffer fish, and an abundance of tropical fish. Best snorkeling we found on the big island and one of the best beaches. Easy parking and not over crowded with tourists. Enjoyed this much more than Two Step beach.
  • Loved going to hó Ókena when I lived there, it was a nice beautiful, calm could see the beautiful yellow fish rolling in the surf, just tumbling around. Also, had dolphins circle me while I was just floating was awesome!
  • Wanted to camp there but the camping is closed since November 2015 due to dengue fewer outbreak. Beach looked very nice, had few locals smoking pot and drinking which is not unusual sight. It would be nice if they post it at the main road and website that camping is not available.
  • To many tourists, and nice place to swim on less crowded days
