Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, Indian Shores

(4.3/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
The largest wild bird hospital and sanctuary in the United States, Seaside Seabird Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates injured wild seabirds in hopes of returning them to nature. Spend time up close with the permanently injured birds who reside at the sanctuary full time and take pictures of some of the 600 wild birds that come through. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water, as the sanctuary is mostly outdoors. Be aware that like any place heavily populated by birds, there can be a strong smell. Put Seaside Seabird Sanctuary on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Indian Shores vacation builder.

  • An amazing sanctuary for the injured original bird inhabitants of this area while surrounded by encroaching urban sprawl. Manned entirely by volunteers this place represents the goodness of humanity.
  • You might overlook this sanctuary nestled between condos, so look carefully. It is also available from the beach side, as we saw several visitors who just wandered in. They house over 100 permanently ...  more »
  • I love that these folks dedicate their time to rehabbing injured and rescued seabirds. I've never had the pleasure of standing two feet from a wild pelican, but I did there. A free pelican wandered in...  more »

  • I love birds, and this place has them. March/April is the best time of the year to go as it is the breading season and the babies are being tended to by mom and dad. Quite the site. If you are afraid of birds, this is a real up close and personal experience. Yes, injured birds are behind netting, but the awesome part is the wild birds that are there for a visit just like you and me. We watch together outside the netting, respecting each others space and taking in the experience. I love this place.
  • I love this place! It never gets old and at feeding time it's so fun to watch the other healthy birds fly by in hopes of getting food. Free admission with a few donation boxes and cheap cute things at gift shop. Also has free parking and an outlet onto the beach!
  • Great place to visit. Free. But remember to donate to a good cause.
  • Great place to see a wide variety of birds. The work they are doing is great, someone needs to help those animals. Dirty though. I'm presuming it has to do with budget.
  • Love seeing all the different birds. Love the nesting season.
