  • My husband and I drove from Chicago for our anniversary. I had read alot about SNF for fall colors, hiking, bird/nature viewing. We went to the Garded of the Gods. It was end of March so there were no...  more »
  • There were some very beautiful parts of Shawnee National Forest, unfortunately we didn't get to see them all. Unfortunately, things are very poorly marked, which is really important in a natural area ...  more »
  • We hiked at Garden of the Gods, Rim Rock and Panthers Den. All were very nice areas, but Panthers Den was probably our favorite. Very cool rock mazes and features.  more »

  • Be sure to see Garden of the Gods and Shades when you visit. Absolutely gorgeous hiking trails, spectacular vistas, and utterly romantic for a couples vacation. Be sure to reserve a camping space early; they fill up very quickly, especially if it's a holiday weekend. There is a cabin rental nearby, in Golconda, if camping is not your thing. It overlooks the Ohio river, with lots of mature trees nearby. A gorgeous spot, especially for an extended vacation close to home.
  • Garden of the Gods is a great place to get away and enjoy the outdoors. The views are great anytime of the day and offers hiking and climbing for all skill levels.
  • Everything is magnificent but CAMPERS GET THERE EARLY ESPECIALLY ON HOLIDAYS....
