  • Best woodland birdwatching close to Houston. Unfortunately, so close to Houston that most of Houston goes to it. 20 years ago, when Houston was half its current size, this place was outstanding. Quiet...  read more »

  • First and foremost this park is beautiful ! OK now here is the down and dirty as one would say. GOOD: scenery, trails maintained, little to no-foot traffic on the trails, very clean park, NO large dan...  read more »
  • Best memories of my entire life include Huntsville State Park. My family went here every year (sometimes several times a year) and we spent weekends, full weeks and even 3 weeks one summer. It is a wonderful camp ground with hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, lounging, relaxing in the National Forest. Shelters available for those without tents - bring cots / air matress to sleep on. Clean showers and restrooms within walking distance of camp sites, 4+ hour hiking trails, paddle boats, kayaks, canoe rentals... Swimming area is no where near fishing spots, so swimmers don't bother fishing enthusiasts. Love this place - day visitors have cooking areas and picnic tables. Bring sun screen for time on or in the water, bring insect repellent - sometimes you'll need it... bring your kids here!
  • My first time visit and I will be going back for sure!! Tucked away ponds, nature and wildlife, this is the perfect place to spend the day and calm yourself. I love when I can escape the hustle and noise of Houston, and this place allows you to do so. Wear high boots or socks because some of the dry sticks are sharp but otherwise it's a wonderful home through the woods - at your own pace!
  • Great mountain biking, one of the best around Houston. Good for hiking, you can swim or Kayak at the lake. Great for bbq anytime, especially fall and winter. Gets very busy in the summer weekends. Beautiful colors in the fall.
  • Great place for picnicking and canoeing. Good lake view. Come here early before all the picnic tables are taken! Also, their swimming spot is small and crowded. Think again if you are here just for swimming.
  • Had the best time, park is really clean Restrooms and showers are clean, we did see a gator close to the swimming area but i think because we got there early like at 7am. but the rest of the day no signs of Gators we wanted to see more :), we had so much fun the water is clean, we went paddle boating so much fun i recommend 100 times!!! we will absolutely coming back.
