  • Took the boat out to test the waters to see if the fish were still biting, NOT even a nibble. Nonetheless an enjoyable time seeing the two eagles fly over and perch in the pine tree. Lots of ducks on ...  more »

  • Love this State Park. Is not too far but not to closed to people. They have so many campsites to choose from. The restrooms are always clean, and the staff is super nice. The hiking trails are awesome and have different ones. It's a nice place to stay for the weekend and forget about your life for a little bit and connect to the nature!
  • This is a large State Park in the Sam Houston National Forest just north of Houston. They have screened in shelters tent sites RV sites and picnic areas. They have lots of biking trails and hiking trails around the lake. You can kayak or boat or fish off the pier. They take reservations online. Reservations are recommended for busy holidays or weekends. This is a great place to get out into the woods and nature away from hustle and bustle of City Life.
  • This is an absolutely gem. Easy to get to, great camping by the lake. I combined parts of three trails that took me through along the lake and through different types of forest for an easy to moderate 3.5 mule hike. Some trails were closed Post-Harvey, but the park is definitely open for business and has lots to offer.
  • The trails are incredible, unfortunately the weather was causing erosion and forced closure of several of the longer trails. Campsites were very well spaced but make sure to bring leveling blocks as the ground has a lot of steep grades. The staff at the front was super helpful and energetic. Can't wait to come back when the weather is nicer!
  • Bought a new mountain bike about 3 months ago. I love riding the main trail in Huntsville State Park although part of its closed down. As of January 2018 however the trails that go into Sam Houston National Forest are open. if you take the South Trail into Sam Houston National Forest it takes you to the North Trail and then back again into Huntsville State Park. This is about a 13 to 15 mile trip if you include the inner loop of the North and South Trail. I'm in my forties so I don't ride hugely technical trails however these trails you'll really get a good workout and they're very fun in my opinion because it's going to very beautiful forests tall pine trees. They made improvements on the trail in Sam Houston's starting with a about a hundred and fifty foot to 250 foot Bridge that that was probably built less than a year ago. It just goes over a very small ravine like I'm talking a foot deep. The North Trail runs pretty close to a golf course I think. I rode this Trail at night from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. with a pretty good light system and then rode it the next day from about 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. anyway get a good mountain bike if you're young you probably can ride any kind of bad Walmart bike but if you're a little bit older and want to feel the difference buy a Specialized or Trek or any other kind of bikes brands that you may like.... Because they do make a difference! Much tougher components much easier gear ratios to pedal hills especially if you're old and fat. Huntsville State Park is it a nice park is the Coldspring double Lake camping area located on the other side of Sam Houston National Forest.
