Hunter Mountain, Hunter

#2 of 22 in Outdoors in Catskill Region
Hunter Mountain isn't just the Catskills' premier winter destination.... it's become one of the Catskill's best four-season resorts. Close to the heart of all that made the Catskills America's first vacation destination, Hunter is located in the beautiful mountaintop region of the Northern Catskill Mountains.

Miles of state hiking trails lead to breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley and the surrounding peaks. The highest fire tower in the state is a moderate hike from the summit of the Skyride. Waterfalls abound, including the highest cascading waterfall in the state. The area terrain is ideal for fishing, camping, mountain biking and many other outdoor adventures.

  • Great mountain, many trails and lifts, good powder snow, not too crowded on the trails on a Sunday which is nice. They offer a $35 4 hour ski on Sundays which was perfect for us, spent less than half what we would've spent for full day. Lodge has huge food court with tons of selection. We got burger and Mac and cheese, both good. Highly recommend!
  • The best mountain for a day trip from NYC. They have great snowmaking and a variety of terrain although there aren't too many blue runs. Good selection of single black diamond with a few double blacks. The learning center is great as well, being separate from the main mountain, which keeps the beginners safe. It's also a great mountain to visit in the summer and fall for a hike or their Oktoberfest. Weekends can be crowded but when Hunter West is open it alleviates the lift lines. Coming on a weekday is the best!
  • Had a great time here yesterday with their learn to ski or snowboard package. Not my first time but fortunately they break up. Their lessons according to your skill level. Jeremy was the coach. Toe turning is something I've never successfully done after 5 times out but after an hour and a half I had it down along with the foundations of carving and we even had some fun trying to go over powder at the end. Shout out to Jeremy for a great lesson!
  • Our family spend two unforgettable days on this resort. The equipment we rented was in really good condition. As I’m the beginner, the personnel helped me to choose right size of the helmet and board, also I had a group training with the young but professional instructor Jack, as I remember. He explained us the basics and checked if everybody understood him and was riding right. My husband was snowboarding by himself, he really liked the mountain. We were lucky that it started to snow the second day of our snowboarding experience here, but there was too many people and the wind was awfully strong. I fell down and understood that I’ve broken my arm. I would like to thank the guys from Medical Center for their invaluable help! It took them not more than 15 minutes to find me and my husband on the mountain, to splint both my hands and to transfer us to the Center. I want to thank Mimi and Kate and also a man, whose name, I suppose, was Sam - I was in pain and did not read it on his badge. All that happened on Monday, December 25 at afternoon. I am not sure if they remember me, but I will always be grateful for their concern! ❤️
  • Pretty nice place. They have a good mix of beginner, intermediate and a few advanced slopes. The beginner slopes are easy to handle. They also have a nice learning center with good instructors. There are also nice area for snow boarding and snow tubing. It gets a little crowded during weekends, but if you go during the weekday, there will be plenty of space. No lines on the lift! You basically get the run of the place. Their food service is OK. Nothing special.
