Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web
Explore the limestone caves at Howe Caverns. The brick walkways, handrails, and elevators make the journey easy. The traditional tour begins at the elevators and ends with a boat ride on the Lake of Venus, an underground body of water. Consider booking an adventure tour to see the undeveloped portion of the cave. You'll be provided with a suit to protect you from the moisture. After the tour, head to the Cave House Museum of Mining & Geology, which is inside a former hotel next door. • Finally visited Howe Caverns after a few years living in the area...what took us so long?!? We were given a fantastic tour by our guide, Austin. The cavern itself is pretty cool (literally - 52 degree...  read more »
  • We visited in October, not crowded but I can imagine this might be in the summer. The tour was informative and entertaining. Enjoyed learning about how it was discovered and the history. My teenagers ...  read more »
  • Went there with my nephew. never expected to find a place like this in NY-underground! Come prepared with a jacket-it is cold down in the cave. Short boat ride was fun as well. Very cool place in Upst...  read more »
  • Took my stepdaughter here for her birthday. We drove 4hrs from New Jersey and stayed over Sunday at the motel on the property. We did the caverns Monday morning. EVERYONE was so very nice and professional! The lady that checked us into our room and the one that checked us out were very sweet and helpful. Our tour guide, Nikki, was AWESOME! The employees that worked the attractions were all very nice, very helpful and just a pleasure to deal with. Howe Caverns is a MUST see!! You won't be disappointed!
  • Went as a child, came back and loved it just as much! I've never done anything but the cavern experience - seriously considered zip lining but ran out of time due to a long line for the caverns - but it was well worth the trip! The guides are fantastic and the tour itself is flecked with colorful history, sights, and a boat tour at the turn-around point. A word of advice: bring a jacket and wear long pants, even if it's the middle of summer (as it was for us). It's 52 degrees down there all year long and you WILL get chilly.
  • It's a wonderful experience. I was here many years ago and it's been updated. Howe High Adventure was great for my 8 year old though he didn't make the weight limit for the Zip Line. Definitely enough challenge in the rope climb and wall climb. The H2O ball was awesome for him but many 30+ parents opted out as did we. We were pleasantly surprised that theThe Howe Cavern Motel was clean and roomy. We did the Hotel package and the gift bag, the fudge and the other coupons were actually most endearing. The Cavern tour was awesome...there are no words as you look upon this amazing underground wonder. I would just recommend it and plan to go back again. It was just a wonderful, positive experience. no high tech, no hype, just a great family trip.
  • Great day for the family. Get there early, lines grow fast. Nice picnic area. We went with a scout troop so had a tour set in advance- it was great. Nice and cool underground so perfectly doable in summer.
  • Caverns impressive. Tours are a little too crowded. It's hard to hear the guide. Elevator to the cave is very fast but the guides were really crowding the guests in....
