Howe Caverns, Howes Cave

4.3
Explore the limestone caves at Howe Caverns. The brick walkways, handrails, and elevators make the journey easy. The traditional tour begins at the elevators and ends with a boat ride on the Lake of Venus, an underground body of water. Consider booking an adventure tour to see the undeveloped portion of the cave. You'll be provided with a suit to protect you from the moisture. After the tour, head to the Cave House Museum of Mining & Geology, which is inside a former hotel next door. • I had been to Howe Caverns as a kid with my family many years ago and have wanted to bring my wife here for years. We finally got the chance to go. Although the Cavern's motel seemed to be pricier tha...  more »
  • Expecting a cavern with rock formations? You will be disapointed. For $25/person you get a a tour down a cave to a boat ride at the end and back. Overrated. Other tours available if you are willing to...  more »
  • It's a really cool cave. Really. Great formations. Underground river. Going through the last section of S turns was awesome. But tour guide Sam has to do a better job. He is young and has no enthusias...  more »

  • Stellar world in the caves deep below the ground. Good historical storytelling by tour guides. Great cool getaway on hot summer days. Gift shop and snack bar is available. Lived nearby for most of my life and always make a point to visit every handful of years. Highlight for most people is the boatride.
  • I didn't get to actually see the caverns, as they would not let me in there with my camera I would have to come on a separate day and set up an appointment. (Small Camera bag/tripod more specifically). It feels very corporate and land pillage-y. Not really my cup of tea but I can't really hold that against them. From what I was able to see you the videos they had in their facility it was quite a sight to see. The facility was very well kept and organized.
  • Beautiful place. Excellent views. The drive up here from the I90 is spectacular. Should be a bit careful on account of the small roads. Good place for family fun!
  • We had an amazing time. Our tour guide was sweet and informative - a great combo! Kids all loved the fun facts and winding way. Only down side... everyone in my family who purchased and ate the candies nuts at the sweet shop after the tour got food poisoning :( not a great way to end our night after a nice day trip.
  • Great place and quick fun for the family. Bring a sweater, during the summer or spring time. The caves will be a constant 52 degrees, year round. Beautiful scenery all around. The food court, wasn't that great, and a bit pricey. Your better off bringing your own food, in a cooler. Howe Caverns sells a cheddar cheese, they age in the caves. It's really good and worth a try. Once again the cheese is a bit pricey, but a good treat.
