  • A fun place to wander and find a little bit of everything. It's a cross between a huge neighborhood garage sale and a European street market. They have shops selling everything from used tools to parrots, everything from biker leathers to pink wigs. It's all out doors so pick a dry day and wear a hat and some sun screen. Also wear your walking shoes. Walking once past every shop will probably require a 3 mile walk.
  • You can find just about anything here and easily spend an entire day without seeing everything. The carnival rides are a bit expensive for what you get at $2.50 per ride but a day pass is well worth the $10 if you want to give the kids a fun day. Come early in the morning if you don't like crowds, parking is already an annoyance at best by 11:00.
  • I work here every Sunday setting up my booth. It can get pretty crowded but it's so organized and clean. Staff is awesome and they have medical staff on site in case someone gets injured. Also kids can come out to a little carnival for 10$ all day!!! Can't beat that.
  • Lots of vendors selling affordable wares. I enjoy the food there and the unique things you can find. $4 for parking. Lots of walking and very family friendly.
  • Great for a few hours of walking around, finding things you did know you needed. It does get hot in the summer months, but there are a few ice houses with cold beers and margaritas, and many raspas stands. Great food everywhere you look, from cup of corn ,to fried chicken, to top notch corn dogs.

Where to stay in Houston

If you come to Houston to splurge while on holiday, book a luxurious room at a downtown hotel. This area is an ideal base for getting to know Houston, offering you a chance to stay within walking distance of one of the country's largest theater districts. Houston bills itself as the "Energy Capital of the World," so it's no surprise that it houses many "green" hotels, their garages designed to cater to electric vehicle owners. For something completely different, enjoy a Texas country experience at a working ranch outside the city limits.
