  • First off I love the Houston Fire Museum! Housed in a old Houston fire station the museum is small. Although the size is small it is packed with history. It boasts a play area for children that has th...  more »
  • I had no idea this was here till we came for an art show in the building. I loved this and would suggest it to anyone visiting Houston who has an interest in its history.  more »
  • We were so excited to check this out but it was sort of lame. You looked in 2 rooms to read about history and there was a tiny play area for the kids. We did come on a free kid day but the cost of com...  more »

  • Fun but small for the price (which isn't much in the first place, but would rather spend it on the cool things in their gift shop). We didn't have to pay though because the upstairs was closed off due to some issues they were having. The people were really nice about it. The fire trucks on the lower level were cool and my son enjoyed the children's room. That's pretty much all there was to see on the first floor though, so we didn't see much. It's a bit run down. Some of the Google photos that are posted are much nicer than it looks right now. Could use some TLC.
  • Whenever I'm in town I always stop by here. I can spend hours just browsing and looking around.Lots of great restaurants and little shops
  • If you are going with kids under 5 and hoping to get into the kid room, don't go on a Saturday. They have private parties in the kids room on Saturdays and other guests of the museum are not allowed in. The ~3 other rooms were interesting enough for the kids, but only for about 15 minutes before we'd seen everything and were ready to go. Definitely not the amount of time I was expecting to spend at the museum! An adult could probably read and experience everything in about 45 minutes.
  • Unfortunately the upper floor was closed for renovation when I visited. Small museum but a few interesting exhibits.
  • My boy loved this place. Great history, and an interactive section for him to touch.

Where to stay in Houston

If you come to Houston to splurge while on holiday, book a luxurious room at a downtown hotel. This area is an ideal base for getting to know Houston, offering you a chance to stay within walking distance of one of the country's largest theater districts. Houston bills itself as the "Energy Capital of the World," so it's no surprise that it houses many "green" hotels, their garages designed to cater to electric vehicle owners. For something completely different, enjoy a Texas country experience at a working ranch outside the city limits.
