Where to stay in Houston

If you come to Houston to splurge while on holiday, book a luxurious room at a downtown hotel. This area is an ideal base for getting to know Houston, offering you a chance to stay within walking distance of one of the country's largest theater districts. Houston bills itself as the "Energy Capital of the World," so it's no surprise that it houses many "green" hotels, their garages designed to cater to electric vehicle owners. For something completely different, enjoy a Texas country experience at a working ranch outside the city limits.

  • Had a wonderful time at discovery green park. The atmosphere is always live and plenty to do. The kayaking is fun to do and watch! The price for parking ($15) is a little steep if you want to get close and not have to walk but its worth it when you're tired and ready to go. the different pop-up shops offer a variety of things to look at and purchase. The crowds are big but often light without a lot of congestion. depending on when you go, you could catch a free concert or live band sharing their talent. Discovery green is a great place to be when you want to be outdoors and just chill.
  • Great for both family or romantic night out. Something for everyone. Child water park area, seasonal ice skating and roller derby rinks, weekly free events, kayaking on the pond, two restaurants within the park to choose from. Not to mention the area surrounding the park was redone for Super Bowl 51. Parking garage located under the park (expensive but convenient). Recommend checking out their website for calendar of events prior to visiting.
  • The city has done a great job developing this area over the last several years. There are places for kids, dog walkers, and adults. The park was packed on Friday night and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. There was even a free show on the Avenida... performances by a group from Cirque la Vie. Lots of fun!
  • A Houston park with air conditioned public bathrooms is always a win. Added the great and unique features, nearby interesting dining options and frequent things going on, Discovery Green is a great attribute to downtown Houston. My only frustration is they don't turn the water features off when it's cold, so going with kids is a challenge sometimes because it'll be 45 degrees and you can end up with frozen children.
  • A neat little oasis in the middle of the downtown. Great for getting outside if you find yourself working around the convention center and need some air. Lots of things going on there all the time, it seems. And, I believe most of the events that happen there are free.
