Waikiki Aquarium, Honolulu

(3.4/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Thanks to Waikiki Aquarium you won’t need scuba gear to see all the magnificence of Hawaiian marine life. Established in 1904, the aquarium is one of the oldest in the United States. Since its beginning, the aquarium’s mission was to display, preserve, and study the abundance of local species. The themed exhibits include everything from corals, jellyfish, and octopuses, to turtles and seals. At one moment you’ll be admiring the beauty and the colors of Hawaiian fish, and at the next you’ll be eye-to-eye with a shark. Touch ponds provide a lot of fun for kids and adults alike. Audio tours are available with the admission, and while this aquarium might not be the biggest one, it offers great opportunities for learning and enjoyment. • Definitely a small aquarium that tries hard. Entry cost for adults is $12 so not expensive. It does a great job of presenting the sea life that surrounds the Hawaiian islands. Also, the fish life exhi...  more »

  • This is a fun little aquarium. So many fish! They also have super awesome volunteers, especially in their touch pool area. My daughter loved holding the hermit crabs, and learning about them!
  • A lovely aquarium - just big enough for the holiday maker! Highlights includes the programme to grow corals, informative displays, and some amazingly brightly coloured species. Jelly fish have got to be the most photogenic of all. The gift shop has a good selection of items - including some very impressive sea-creature hand puppets.
  • I think this place is really under appreciated. Their exhibits accurately portray the ocean. In particular, their reef exhibits do accurately portray the ocean. You really get a feel for what corals and local fish actually look like. The place could use some funding and a bit better budgeting to renovate some areas like the restrooms and add a few exhibits, but it is still a good aquarium.
  • My family and I had an awesome time here. I read a few reviews before we went, many of which poked fun at the size of the place. I think those opinions are a bit outlandish, there's more than enough to see. We spent about 2 hours looking at a huge variety of exhibits, indoors and out, being educated by the videos, signs, and very friendly staff. The people here are really great, and obviously care about the animals they work with. Would go back again for sure.
  • We thought it was a great place! Very imformative, I guess if you're looking for whiz bang you may be dissappointed but if you're at all interested in sea life and beautiful exhibits go. Tanks of jelly fish, sea horses, huge gropers, estuary fish and more.
