National Memorial Cemetery-Pacific, Honolulu

Categories: Cemeteries, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web
A memorial cemetery commemorating fallen soldiers, National Memorial Cemetery-Pacific is known locally as "Punchbowl Cemetery." The common name refers to the cemetery's position at the Punchbowl Crater, an extinct volcano. Since the cemetery's founding in 1948, thousands of veterans have been interred. Pay a visit to the chapel where a tribute to the battles fought by the interred is inscribed on the walls. The tropical climate supports gardens in the cemetery that act as a natural tribute to the soldiers who lie in its grounds. • I am laying my father to rest there on Wednesday, August 3. He was one of the last members of the original 442nd Regimental Combat Team . So, the National Cemetery takes on an even greater meaning for me and my family.
  • Beautiful resting place and memorial. Detailed mosaic maps of military campaigns throughout Asia & the Pacific. There is also a quaint chapel behind the large lady Liberty statue.
  • Humbling place to visit. Huge and well laid out. Good place to pay respects to those who served
  • Absolutely incredible. Must visit if you are at all patriotic or just curious. Epic views as well from the top of Honolulu
  • I was on Oahu working and this is a must see. It is a testament to the war in the pacific. Europe is covered in more detail for some reason but there were many acts of heroism in the pacific theater. The number of battles, ships, equipment and lives lost is unbelievable. If you're a WWII buff this place is a must see. Wizard of Where
