Where to stay in Honolulu

Most of Honolulu's luxury hotels and oceanfront condos are located in Waikiki, the city's most popular neighborhood. Staying in this area keeps you within walking distance of one of the world's finest beaches, but it also means paying a bundle for your room and board. To avoid high rates and big crowds, consider the budget hotels outside Waikiki's busiest areas. Smaller hotels just a short drive from the city's beaches offer comfortable rooms and good food at a fraction of the price of their Waikiki equivalents.

  • This beach was beautiful and the sand was very soft. I was able to lay on the beach while my husband surfed! It was just us and another family while we were there! We will return on our next visit wit...  more »
  • we went to this beach by the Campground. It had lovely soft sand, great access, warm water and you could swim, snorkel or surf! As well, the beach is very long so you can go for a 2 hour walk to the o...  more »
  • What a rude awakening to see the confetti of plastic particulates that made up the shoreline. My first reaction was to grab a garbage bag and a net and clean it up. Then, I could see that 100 bags wou...  more »

  • The true "off the beaten path" beach and campgrounds that most tourists never see. Great place to chill, party up, and of course hit the empty beach. You can walk out to another island, "Goat island" if tide is low and ocean calm. Totally worth the trek . If you go at right time the water between islands is never overhead, chest level maybe. Wear old sneakers to protect you from reef as you cross and also for Goat Island itself, very sharp lava rock over there.
  • We had our family reunion here and it was the first time I've been back for 13 years. Malaekahana State Recreation Area is a great place to camp and have various activities. The restrooms are clean and well kept for a busy place. The entire area is good and clean. We had approx 100 people from our family reunion at our camp site and it handled it quite well. We even had running water and electricity.
  • The reason I dislike this beach is I was saddened by all the plastic garbage I found on the beach. I can't believe that this paradise is littered with all this. 😔 We should educate ourselves with what is going on in our environment because this is what our future generations are going to look forward to.
  • Great Quiet place, great clean Pacific warm water and a long beach. Camping available and large clean restrooms.
  • A lot of people were camping here, but we just came for the beach. The water is a bit rocky in some areas, but there is a nice sandy spot near the point.
