  • I went to Shangri La Tour meeting place. I learned that in the museum itself, not expecting too much, but good luck listening to the commentary of the curator of Japanese and expected more than a great Museum. It was originally started in personal, like buildings and grounds as it did. Is that it, now that more exhibit by private donations. Is that good things would be the so-called Western art exhibition, was most surprised in America collection of Ukiyo-e, next to Metropolitan Boston's 3. If you're lucky, may go to the exhibition period of Hokusai and Hiroshige.

  • Nice collections of Hawaiian art, and unexpectedly, some gems of art from around the world. All presented in a nice setting.  more »
  • The airy building alone and different courtyards are worth a visit. On the 24th of December, we were almost the only visitors, and that exacerbated the silence and magic of this unique place. The collection seems to be immense and very broad, during our 2 hour stay, we have limited ourselves to China and Japan, when you meet a targeted selection you need throughout the day probably. Those who are interested a little art should omit this museum never. In addition, there is also still a very well-stocked museum shop.

  • Great smaller sized museum. I love how it's part outdoors because you can actually do that in Hawaii. There's a room with a Gauguin and Monet and etc. to appreciate as well.
  • It has many artifacts, variety of art types, much information and is very open. I found some of the art beautiful, some intricate art in which the artist's seemed to have a sense of humour, and other that was elegant. The first time in can be a bit of a maze to get through. We did not make it through the whole building in 2 hours, which was only problematic because we had to keep running out to feed the meter. We did enjoy running through at our own pace so that we could focus on each piece at our own pace. We will be back to see the rest☺
  • Absolutely beautiful, airy buildings and courtyards; interesting and eclectic Asian art collections; lovely tropical-themed ikebana tucked in various corners; friendly staff. Cafe is ridiculously pricey but the food is quite good. A peaceful, rejuvenating way to spend a day in Honolulu, far from the crowds. One of the nicest spots in the islands, in my view.
  • A great window for the Polynesian culture. Best in door activity on the island so if it's raining you probably want to go there
  • I like the venue more than the art. There are beautiful little gardens representing different cultures. The store is interesting, though pricey (normal for a museum store). Some of their most exquisite art is on tour. I do enjoy they Middle Eastern display which contradicts some common stereotypes of Middle Eastern at including that figures are not depicted in Muslim art.

Where to stay in Honolulu

Most of Honolulu's luxury hotels and oceanfront condos are located in Waikiki, the city's most popular neighborhood. Staying in this area keeps you within walking distance of one of the world's finest beaches, but it also means paying a bundle for your room and board. To avoid high rates and big crowds, consider the budget hotels outside Waikiki's busiest areas. Smaller hotels just a short drive from the city's beaches offer comfortable rooms and good food at a fraction of the price of their Waikiki equivalents.
