  • I love coming to this museum on the free days. It's such a beautiful museum by itself. It's always so much fun to come here with my aunt. When I came here last time, the bus to the other part of the museum kept coming too early, but we managed to take one of the buses. The other part of the museum is just as beautiful with a more breathtaking view. I recommend coming here if you want to learn more about Hawaiian culture through art!
  • As an art student, I enjoy being in the presence of art, I was however not as interested to know about the Hawaiian Art. I thought that the Honolulu Museum of Art would have only consisted of Hawaiian Art but boy, I was so, SO wrong. I saw a range of art starting from the Egyptians (small collection) to contemporary art. Also the Museum itself was beautiful. Their courtyards were amazing! The cafes seemed to close before 4pm. I had spent more than 2 hours in the museum and I still wanted to see more but time was up. I also wanted to go to the Spalding house, where more artworks are exhibited and you can be entered as long as you go the same day. (admission was $10) But was too late for that. The next time I go I think I would go a lot earlier. I arrived a little late at 1:45pm and by then missed most of the tours. Most tours are at 1:30 or before that, but I got to take the themed tour at 2:30pm about the Shunga art (the Japanese erotic art). May I warn you, it was a very shocking exhibition and even the tour guide told us to feel free to leave at anytime. We lost about half our group by the end of it. It was a lot to take in and quite disturbing. She said that it was impossible to exhibit these collections in Japan. There were also local artists that were being exhibited! Be sure to check what special exhibitions they have on the date of your visit because they have very good exhibitions. I was sad to have missed the Art Deco exhibition by a few days.
  • Really nice and quaint museum. The art and displays are set up wonderfully. The staff were friendly and kind. Would definitely recommend.
  • I love museums in general and while the Native Hawaiian art they have on regular display isn't my cup of tea, they do have a fabulous collection of Islamic art and for that reason the museum is worth a visit. Also, if you're interest in visiting Shangri La, the only way to do it is through a small group tour with the museum so take advantage of your time and do both in an afternoon. Even if you don't love the museum I'll guarantee that the tour of Shangri La will be one of the best house tours you've ever taken. Don't miss out!
  • Expansive. Curated collection from all over Asia and throughout time. Took 3 to 4 hours casually striking through. Have lunch t the Cafe: burger and hot dog surprisingly good, around $10.
