  • This is not the Met or the Louvre, but much of what you see here easily qualifies to be at both. The collection takes in a bit of most major categories of art and you will be surprised by the names of...  more »

  • Art after dark art nights are fantastic and enable me an excuse to go downtown. Great exhibits and rarely to edgy or forward.
  • As an art student, I enjoy being in the presence of art, I was however not as interested to know about the Hawaiian Art. I thought that the Honolulu Museum of Art would have only consisted of Hawaiian Art but boy, I was so, SO wrong. I saw a range of art starting from the Egyptians (small collection) to contemporary art. Also the Museum itself was beautiful. Their courtyards were amazing! The cafes seemed to close before 4pm. I had spent more than 2 hours in the museum and I still wanted to see more but time was up. I also wanted to go to the Spalding house, where more artworks are exhibited and you can be entered as long as you go the same day. (admission was $10) But was too late for that. The next time I go I think I would go a lot earlier. I arrived a little late at 1:45pm and by then missed most of the tours. Most tours are at 1:30 or before that, but I got to take the themed tour at 2:30pm about the Shunga art (the Japanese erotic art). May I warn you, it was a very shocking exhibition and even the tour guide told us to feel free to leave at anytime. We lost about half our group by the end of it. It was a lot to take in and quite disturbing. She said that it was impossible to exhibit these collections in Japan. There were also local artists that were being exhibited! Be sure to check what special exhibitions they have on the date of your visit because they have very good exhibitions. I was sad to have missed the Art Deco exhibition by a few days.
  • Honolulu Museum of Art offers a very large artifact collection, with a cafe and seating areas. There's a great display for children and for members there special days during the month with live music and cocktail parties..$$$$
  • I love coming to this museum on the free days. It's such a beautiful museum by itself. It's always so much fun to come here with my aunt. When I came here last time, the bus to the other part of the museum kept coming too early, but we managed to take one of the buses. The other part of the museum is just as beautiful with a more breathtaking view. I recommend coming here if you want to learn more about Hawaiian culture through art!
  • Beautiful Museum filled with rich history and splendor. I would suggest stopping by a few times. Especially with their revolving contemporary sets.
