My daughter worked here in 2014-2015, she would often share many very interesting details on artifacts that eventually I had to go for a visit. I was not dissapointed! In fact I filled up my memory ca...  more »

We got free admission through our hotel, The Outrigger. We spent about an hour in there but could easily have spent longer. The air conditioning is great, a good place to cool down. There is a cafe an...  more »

This day is $ 10 for admission is free, but it 混mimasenn. Turn on donations alone. A valuable collection of many staff. Nothing works just around the corner, and you can watch. Are shown in museums in Japan do not instead from the crowd and say no. Came the art luxury with appreciation in space was cool even on hot days, so is recommended. Slowly and watch time is about 2 hours.

I come to the HMOA alone, escape the hustle and bustle of the world, quietly enjoy the artwork from the past and present. I bring the kids on themed Family Sunday to enjoy the art hunt, the music, the art workshops and demonstration. On this day we share the art with the next generation and other folks. Parking is an issue if you don't want to pay at their parking lot located next to the learning facility diagonally across from Beretania Street. I usually find street meter parking (as far as near Goodwill/McDonald's) since I don't mind the walk. Don't forget to set your meter alarm app! Time flies when you enjoying the arts.

This is a unique museum. A little hard to negotiate around as it has multiple levels with an open courtyard in the middle and each level is split into 4 different sections. Okay for the disabled. The art works are amazing going from the very old to modern contemporary. Well worth the visit. Closed Sundays

We loved our time here. Interesting pieces of work from all over the world and a lovely court yard in every corner of the building. They have a cafe where you can sit and have coffee while you work or study, and the environment is very serene.

We went there a few times. Very pretty, intimate, and lots to see. They café next door has great salads. It is never crowded. A must see if you like museums and if you are in the area .

Small but exquisite, now has a good spread from India Indonesia Thailand Japan Korea to Islamic Art and of course Hawaiian art. Lots of goodies on Buddhism. Islamic collection here is due to Ms Doris Duke and her $$$ Tobacco inheritance. There are some European stuff, including Monet Picasso etc but why would you come to Hawaii expecting big collection on European art. If you look close, the point is made that the aggressor into this pacific culture is one of land grab as well as day dream...sexualizing the exotic, the passive island subject instead of respect. The space of wild land slowly erode in real estate development and ever going tourism. The temporary art exhibit rotate enough work through to keep locals returning periodically.

Where to stay in Honolulu

Most of Honolulu's luxury hotels and oceanfront condos are located in Waikiki, the city's most popular neighborhood. Staying in this area keeps you within walking distance of one of the world's finest beaches, but it also means paying a bundle for your room and board. To avoid high rates and big crowds, consider the budget hotels outside Waikiki's busiest areas. Smaller hotels just a short drive from the city's beaches offer comfortable rooms and good food at a fraction of the price of their Waikiki equivalents.
