Where to stay in Honolulu

Most of Honolulu's luxury hotels and oceanfront condos are located in Waikiki, the city's most popular neighborhood. Staying in this area keeps you within walking distance of one of the world's finest beaches, but it also means paying a bundle for your room and board. To avoid high rates and big crowds, consider the budget hotels outside Waikiki's busiest areas. Smaller hotels just a short drive from the city's beaches offer comfortable rooms and good food at a fraction of the price of their Waikiki equivalents.

  • You can spend hours browsing this market. Good variety of goods for sale. Better to go earlier in the day when it's not so hot as it is an outdoor market.  more »
  • Went on Wednesday to the flea market. Wow, it is huge. Covers the entire circle of stadium. There is anything you want items. New or garage sale type. Souvenirs galore.  more »

  • Visited the Aloha swap meet (market) during a recent trip to Honolulu. Overall the swap meet was a neat way to spend a Sat. morning. The selection of things to buy was pretty good, but the vendors seemed to be selling redundant items and some vendors had multiple booths about every 100 yards, so the whole thing seemed like overkill. Also was hoping to find more local flavor. The fruit vendors offered some pretty amazing local fruits, but there was not much else to eat other than burgers and hot dogs from the stadium vendors.
  • This was a bit disappointing as a football fan. The facility itself is in pretty bad shape though I was there for the weekend swap meet. Lots of vendors selling souvenirs to tourist. If you are visiting for this reason, this is where to buy things. Most items are NOT made in Hawaii but I don't think anyone really cares. Prices were the best I have seen on the island so would go here after pricing other places or start here and be done early. After about 1 or 2 hours here, you can plan to leave as there is not much variation or other things to do. All vendors are outside of the stadium which cannot be used for non-recreational or cultural events. The Swap Meet is in the parking lot and it costs $1 per person to enter.
  • This is A HUGE outdoor market with lots of great deals. There are many clothing and jewelry vendors, but we weren't able to find many options for an actual meal. There were several fresh fruit vendors though, so no complaints.
  • We were at the stadium for the swap meet. We had a chance to look inside and walk around. It's a pretty stadium with all amenities. Grill, bar, store and restrooms. I will have to come back for a game.
  • Great swap meet. All the tourist items you could want at great prices. Bring comfortable shoes, it's a big swap meet.
