Ala Moana Center, Honolulu

4.2
Thought to be the largest outdoor shopping center in the world, Ala Moana Center offers more than 290 shops and 70 restaurants to explore. The center's design is based on modern Hawaiian architectural ideas, which you'll see as you spot the many natural symbols incorporated into the buildings and landscaping. • Ala Moana Center has the worst Santa photo experience so please take your children and go somewhere else! We had a hugely disappointing experience last night and I blame Ala Moana Center. With that be...  more »
  • Going to Hawaii to feel every time. Was just before Christmas, but I couldn't stay at the earlier momentum. It's cumbersome to move the F 1 and F 2 is the same.

  • The mall is close to Waikiki. It's a big mall with high brands. We liked the food court the most; it has different options that we normally don't see in the rest of north America. The options were gre...  more »

  • The famous giant mall of Oahu. It has changed quite a bit over the last two decades...feels like just another mega-franchise/brand mall like any other one in the world. Still fun to hang out here. Go to the Japanese food court. Great food and cheap beer. 🍺
  • Be careful, you can easily spend a whole day here. Good selection of stores and places to eat. Truly a place that caters for all. The center is much larger than it appears so be sure to allow plenty of time to take it all in....or consult the directory/ store finder. Nice atmosphere also.
  • Large mall with a huge variety of shops, something for almost everyone. Very clean and every store well stocked and very friendly employees. Tons of eating options from cheap and inexpensive to fine dining and lots of places in the middle. Lots of parking. And easily accessible no matter if your walking, riding the bus , taking a cab . Or driving. Also a great place to just people watch.
  • This place is amazing. And gigantic as well as pretty pricey. It's definitely cut out mostly for those with a hefty wallet. But there's some places that are reasonable. But at Ala Moana center you pay for the experience and the amazement of the size, the amount of stores, all of the many places to dine, eat and drink there. It's basically has everything for the consumer. Good for travelers, kids looking to meet with friends, great safe place first daters, working parents needing to grab groceries and tennis shoes all at once, it's there or to meet a large group of friends or family for a nice dinner. Ala Moana Center has it all and has had it all since 1969.
  • Great place to eat and shop -- mostly. They need to add more family/kids activities and more stores tailored for the local crowd. More entertainment type experiences are needed as well. The place is huge and can be confusing. Parking is not too bad except during the Christmas period, but then parking is bad at every mall.

Where to stay in Honolulu

Most of Honolulu's luxury hotels and oceanfront condos are located in Waikiki, the city's most popular neighborhood. Staying in this area keeps you within walking distance of one of the world's finest beaches, but it also means paying a bundle for your room and board. To avoid high rates and big crowds, consider the budget hotels outside Waikiki's busiest areas. Smaller hotels just a short drive from the city's beaches offer comfortable rooms and good food at a fraction of the price of their Waikiki equivalents.
