Water Park Water / Amusement Park
Sandcastle is a water park located in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Homestead. The park is located on a 67acre piece of land along the banks of the Monongahela River. Sandcastle is owned by Parques Reunidos, who purchased Kennywood Entertainment. The company runs its original sister parks, Kennywood, Idlewild Park, and Lake Compounce. The park contains fourteen water slides, several swimming pools, and a handful of other attractions.HistoryThe site where Sandcastle currently sits was formerly a railroad yard for U.S. Steel. In 1988, Kennywood Entertainment bought the land and began construction on the park. Sandcastle officially opened for business in July 1989. The park was originally supposed to be called Splashdown, however park executives decided on Sandcastle.Current AttractionsThe park has a total of 14 water slides including 3 speed slides. Other slides include the Blue Tooba Looba (which replaced Bermuda Triangle, the only closed slide in the park), Thunder Run, Tubers Tower and Cliffhangers. Other attractions at Sandcastle include a "lazy river," a large swimming pool, Mon-Tsunami, a wave pool, a hot tub and an area of water slides and water attractions designed specifically for children called Wet Willies. The park also features an entertainment complex called The Sandbar and a marina. In January 2007, the Chevrolet Amphitheatre, formerly known as the IC Light Amphitheatre, under plans by concert promoter Live Nation, was disassembled. According to new design plans, the new amphitheater will rest between Sandcastle's west perimeter and the Waterfront section of Homestead Borough along the Monongahela River. Sandcastle already had an existing amphitheatre on the property, but was outdated and was seldom used.

  • We have season passes purchased on sale, so for us Sandcastle serves its purpose. It's a decent place to cool off with nice enough slides, and the wave pool is one of the best and largest we have been...  more »

  • It's a good place for the whole family! I felt a little bit bad for my five year old, he's sort of between the kiddie things and all the slides (in interest and height). Also, the best kiddie area (Wet Willie's) is pretty removed from everything else, so that can make logistics a little challenging when your 10 year old wants to do all the slides. It is a really fun day for either really little kids or bigger (late elementary and up) kids but is lacking in options for kids in between those categories.
  • ***SANDCASTLE IS NOT SAFE FOR YOUR FAMILY! On June 11th 2017 my friend and her 52 yr old aunt were assaulted at Sandcastle by 5 females. My friend's 3 young children stood by helpless as security watched and did nothing. West Homestead police department did nothing. My friend has a broken finger and cuts and bruises all over her body. After trying to intervene, her aunt was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head. Sandcastle is not cooperating in an investigation. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO SANDCASTLE! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY OR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!***
  • I go maybe once a year and I swear every year I come home and am sick the next day. Once or twice I blamed it on maybe the water was too cold, but anymore I think it's dirty water conditions. Probably swimming in 25% urine and other unmentionable fluids. I don't know, just a theory. I'm not big on the park atmosphere, better off at a local pool.
  • Great place for the whole family!! Who can beat season passes 2 for 99$ will definitely be spending time here this Summer!!!😎
  • Nice place, but it's in a rough area .... hopefully they pump more money into this area like their suppose to, to clean it up
