Homer Spit, Homer
(4.2/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Alaska is known for its natural phenomena, and Homer Spit is among the most remarkable. No one is certain how this Kachemak Bay landmark came into existence. A strong earthquake in 1964 significantly reduced its size and killed most of its lush vegetation. But that didn't stop the spot from turning into a popular tourist destination lined with shops and restaurants. Choose from a range of activities such as boat trips, camping, fishing, kayaking, and walks down the long beach. You can access the spit by a car, but parking lots might be crowded.
