Homer Spit, Homer
(4.2/5 based on 1,100 reviews on the web)
Alaska is known for its natural phenomena, and Homer Spit is among the most remarkable. No one is certain how this Kachemak Bay landmark came into existence. A strong earthquake in 1964 significantly reduced its size and killed most of its lush vegetation. But that didn't stop the spot from turning into a popular tourist destination lined with shops and restaurants. Choose from a range of activities such as boat trips, camping, fishing, kayaking, and walks down the long beach. You can access the spit by a car, but parking lots might be crowded. • There is a reason they call Homer the Halibut Capital of the World. Came home with 40 pounds of freshly caught halibut from a full day charter. Delicious!
  • beautiful place! saw so many eagles on the spit and a tiny glimps through the clouds one night of the aurora borealis.
  • Had wonderful weather. Good to catch the fishermen who show their loot in the port URzien.ook nice to see fishermen cleaning their fish with a magnificent view of the Bay; Kachemak bay. There were also some good restaurants, where it can be very busy.
