Blackwater River State Park, Holt

4.6
A favorite destination for canoeists and kayakers, Blackwater River State Park offers opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities. The river is one of the purest sand-bottom rivers in the nation, making this park a popular place for swimming, fishing, camping, and paddling. Shaded campsites are just a short walk from the river and a picnic pavilion overlooks the river. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy strolling along trails through the more than 600 acres of undisturbed natural communities. In 1980 the park was certified as a Registered State Natural Feature for its exceptional illustration of Florida's natural history. One of the largest and oldest Atlantic white cedars stands among the many that line the river and, in 1982, it was recognized as a Florida Champion tree.

The park offers two nature trails, picnic areas, and 30 campsites. Campsite amenities include water, electricity (20/30/50 amp), on-site sewer and a bathhouse. Camping reservations may be made by visiting ReserveAmerica.com or by calling ReserveAmerica at (800) 326-3521.

  • I felt like I was in the road all day long, from Orlando to Backwater River, but men what a road, beautiful!! When we got there awesome staff, clean bathroom and environment. Was my first time camping...  more »
  • We were supposed to camp here just overnight on our trip out to NOLA, but we actually had to stay a second night due to SNOW here in the panhandle of Florida. What a beautiful sight just a couple week...  more »
  • A bit remote but well worth the drive, this little gem is a wonderful place to take a break from the hustle & bustle of camping. No wifi so a more subdued experience but the local natural beauty more ...  more »

  • Beautiful Park! Camping, hiking, fishing, & canoes available for rent. Swim at own risk. Swift current, drop-offs into deep water, and alligators have been seen in the park. Great hiking trails. Didn't catch any fish but had a good time anyway. Loads of beaches along the shores so you can pretty much be on your own.
  • Full hookups and abeautiful river to kayak. The white sandy beaches are a perfect place for a picnic. A isolated and quit place to camp. The bath houses are excellent. Swimming from the beaches are great for the kids. The park also has a playground for the young ones.
  • Nice campground...very neat and organized. Good vegetation between campsites...utilities were excellent (even sewer connections!) Restrooms/ showers are clean and modern...and all work well. Great paddling spot...but, flooded river when I visited...over access road even!
  • Nice clean, quiet camp grounds with all the amenities. Only issues were controlled burns on underbrush going on around us...hard to be outside and had to close up our trailer.. other than that, would've been a 5 * .
  • Nice water, many beaches as the river snakes from side to side. Speaking of snakes, THERE ARE SNAKES! And alligators, and all other sorts of river dwelling things that you don't want to be bitten by! SO BE AWARE! But it's fun, it's cheap, and it's nearby. There is canoe and inner tube rental for relaxed floating. No alcohol allowed. No glass containers allowed! Hefty fines for breaking state park rules!
