Shipyard Golf Club, Hilton Head

3.1
#8 of 17 in Golf in Hilton Head
The Shipyard Plantation has changed hands many times over the years, but it is one of only two plantations to retain its antebellum name. A bricklayer from Dublin, Ireland, named Henry Talbot-Talbird is the first recorded owner of the 1,765-acre property in the early 1700s. Because bricks were manufactured on the property (including for the 3rd Tybee Island Lighthouse), it came to be known as the “Brickyard Plantation.” But after the Revolutionary War, the Fickling family resided here. And because they were shipbuilders, the plantation became known as the “Fickling Plantation”. And the “Shipyard Plantation.”

  • Good course. Lots of water and dog legs. Much better condition than last year's reviews suggest. Some greens had places in need of repair. Greens ran smoothly and held shots. Fairways had lots of bump...  more »
  • Nice course, fairways in decent shape for this time of year, traps in good condition and the greens were excellent! Employees were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely play it again.  more »
  • So when we arrived it took us 10-15 minutes to check in...we had purchased a package deal with them and the sister courses. Then we're told it's $85 a player...then explaining to the person in the pro...  more »

  • Terrible experience. VERY rude Marshall kept after us when we were playing with a nice woman who had just had 2 knee replacements and has macular degeneration. We will NEVER play golf there again. It was shameful. Why don't these courses with 27 holes designate one 9 for slower players so everyone can enjoy themselves. Let the fast players play on the other 18. Oh, I know ... It's all about the $$
  • Lots of wildlife to view while on the course. Greens are rolling great. Fun course, great staff. They have a beverage cart that will bring you a drink !
  • My husband, grandson and I, from Pennsylvania, played at The Shipyard two days while vacationing at Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island. Our grandson didn't have his clubs with him because of flying, but the cart staff gave us a set of junior clubs to use. They were very sociable to Maddox as they wished him a good round. The course was in excellent condition and the staff was most cordial. Thank you!
  • Nice driving range. Lots of quality range balls for $7.50. Nice😊Staff. Fast delivery of cart.
  • Course excellent shape. Greens are slow. Zoysia grass rough makes it difficult to find ball at times. Staff very friendly.
