  • We were here with another couple for our annual time share week in October. We've been coming here for over 25 years and always enjoy stopping by Shelter Cove. It's great to be able to stroll around s...  read more »

  • Six adults recently visited here. Nice views of harbor with beautiful yachts, golf course, and beautiful sunsets. Benches and rocking chairs around. Several shops and restaurants. Enjoyable.
  • The dock master, Jason, is top notch. The level of service and looking out for their customers is beyond what you ever find anywhere else. Trailering my boat from hours away with the family was made super easy by Jason and staff. They meet us at the boat launch, took the boat over to the slip at the marina and helped get the trailer stored for the week. They made what would have been almost an impossible task by myself very simple, easy and fast. I will definitely be back and recommend this marina to everyone.
  • Can't imagine how this misadventure cited in a review this week is a marina dock masters fault. Fishing in between boats in a working marina with dozens of powered and non powered water craft transiting with unfamiliar tourists does not sound like a plan set up for success. It sounds as though Jason was doing his job in providing a safe and efficient marina operational environment for the boat owners, slip renters, commercial traffic and water sport patrons to thrive in. In my 20 years in the Shelter Cove area and my last 6 with our boat slipped there, I never recall the marina being more friendly or efficient. Jason and his entire staff are available to the boat owners at any time. Any issue with a dock or advice for marine mechanics, Jason is on top of it all. I personally needed some assistance with our boat and Jason went above and beyond to deliver for us. Shelter Cove is the premier marina for good reason; its location and amenities. It remains the premier marina for good reason; its management and staff.
  • Not sure about the guy ranting about Jason and his fishing experience, obviously there is more to the "story". I came to Shelter Cove over a year ago because of the way I was treated by Jason. He takes personal interest in you and in what takes place in the marina and throughout Palmetto Dunes and will do all he can to accomodate. He is the reason that I will be here for at least another year. Yes, this whole area has great fishing but it is each fisherman's responsibility to be courteous and mindful of all boaters. My personal opinion is that it's not a good idea to fish in ANY marina, especially with so much better fishing grounds outside the marina. There is a lot that is going on in all marinas and having to deal with anchored boats shouldn't be something any Captain should have to deal with. Obviously if you take a look at all of the other reviews about Shelter Cove and Jason you will see that this gentleman is gravely mistaken.
  • After a review of shelter coves website I came across a article about fishing in shelter cove Harbour I felt I had to comment on this situation having owned boats for over 50 years and docking at marinas all over the USA it is not unusual to not allow fishing in the marina in fact I don't ever remember a marina that allowed fishing inside the marina. To blame a dockmaster for not allowing you to fish inside a marina is absurd . I have docked at this marina several times and lived on Hilton head for 27 years I have never known them to allow fishing in the marina. As far as the dockmaster Jason Wheller I found him to be one of the most hands on dockmaster's I have encountered . I have seen him on the docks checking boats in reviewing work being done etc. while most. Dockmaster'd never leave their office Jason seems concerned about all facets of the marina operation.
  • We have been coming to Shelter Cove on and off for 2 years and have been there as full time live a boards since November. In that time, Jason and his staff have been wonderful in every way. That's why it pains me so see negative reviews that are just not true. I witness the encounter with the gentlemen that wants to bring lawyers because Jason asked him the leave and stop fishing 1st, I have been in marinias from St Augastine to the Chesapeke and I have never seen a marina that allows fishing from a boat much less a boat that is not there as a guest. 2nd, as a boater, I do not like having people cast up and around boats. That is one step away from shirmping and crabbing that could cause major problems when engines are cranked up. 3rd, I watched most if not all of the encounter and Jason was calm and showed a lot of patients with the situation. I not sure what else he could have done and to top it off, I never saw the upset boater attempt to get fuel. I understand there is a lot of great fishing around Shelter Cove. I am not sure anyone would need to fish around all of the boats. If you have question about how great a marina Shelter Cove is, I encourage you to bring your boat and come for a visit. There are great shops and restaurants, plenty of water sports, and even boats you can rent and spend the night on the water for a taste of boating life.
