Rainbow Falls, Hilo

4.2
#2 of 16 in Parks in Hilo
Visit Wiluku River State Park to witness Rainbow Falls, the 24 m (80 ft) waterfalls famous for the magnificent rainbows that shine through their mist. These falls, know to locals by their Hawaiian name, Waianuenue, rush down over a lava cave, which is considered to be the home of the ancient Hawaiian goddess Hina. At the foot of the falls, wild ginger and monstera plants surround a large pool. Naturally, the rainbows are especially strong after a rainstorm. • A great waterfall with a beautiful pool at the bottom, compositional perfection for photographers and you can shoot at 100 feet from the parking lot.  more »

  • A beautiful place to to see a gorgeous waterfall just feet from a parking lot! Come in the morning for the rainbow. No seating available. I wish it had benches! It does have a standard park bathroom, handicapped parking, and an accessible view for some.
  • Beautiful waterfall. I went when it wasn't so strong. Do your homework and find out the best time to visit. Regardless it is still a nice place to visit. Especially if aren't the adventurous type, and not into hiking.
  • This was a breath taking spot to visit. There were wild cats and chicken too! They do have bathrooms there. There's a hiking stairway going up the side of the waterfall, so you enjoy all angles of it.
  • Absolutely stunning. If you haven’t visited this spot you really need to stop by. Great photo op, easy parking and best of all it’s free!
  • Pretty with easy access. We stopped by on the way out of town. With kids the option to get out and just see the Falls was a great surprise. Longer hikes were available, but not needed.
