Rainbow Falls, Hilo
(4/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Visit Wiluku River State Park to witness Rainbow Falls, the 24 m (80 ft) waterfalls famous for the magnificent rainbows that shine through their mist. These falls, know to locals by their Hawaiian name, Waianuenue, rush down over a lava cave, which is considered to be the home of the ancient Hawaiian goddess Hina. At the foot of the falls, wild ginger and monstera plants surround a large pool. Naturally, the rainbows are especially strong after a rainstorm. • We really loved going to Rainbow Falls. This is a park that is practically in Hilo. For the best chance of seeing a rainbow, take the stairs to the view point at the top of the falls.
  • This waterfall is very accessible and if you hike a short distance into the woods there is a beautiful large tree you can also see. The rainbow depends on the the lighting (of course) so hang out for ...  more »

  • Due to the recent amount of rain that hilo has had the falls were beautiful. There were not a lot of people there that day. There is a public bathroom on site. The best time to see the rainbow is in the morning when the sun shines on the mist from the falling water.
  • Great accessibility and incredible scenery. A great stop to take pictures and enjoy some great foliage.
  • Small area, but nice and pretty. Information boards on the lookout, neat lil story. Able to climb up a lil ways for another view. Go in the morning to see the rainbows.
  • We didn't see the rainbow... I hope I will see it next time
  • Nice park and waterfall. Great views and hike to waterfall easy
