4.3/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Take a break from Hawaii's busy tourist areas with a visit to Liliuokalani Park and Gardens, situated just southeast of downtown Hilo. The main feature of this 12 hectare (30 acre) park is an Edo-style Japanese garden, one of the largest such features outside Japan. Built in the early 1900s, the garden features several bridges, koi ponds, pagodas, statues, and a traditional Japanese teahouse. Adjacent to the park you’ll find a small picnic area locally known as the "Coconut Island," once the site of an ancient healing temple. Connected to the park by a footbridge, the island offers unobstructed views of downtown Hilo and its picturesque bay. • Beautiful, quiet, serene gardens overlook Hilo bay. Nice walking paths to see gardens. Beautiful archways over water.
  • This is a great way to start the day, early morning walk through the gardens. Great place for young children to run off some energy while enjoying the Hawaiian culture.
  • A nice and orderly Japanese garden. Quietly, calmly, well. A good place to relax in the shade and listen to the birds singing, which is here.
